The bride was supported by Miss Annie HACKER and the best man was Fred HACKER. They will live in Calumet. MARRIAGE- Joseph KINZEL married Mary JOHNSON, at the home of the bride in Calumet on Tuesday evening. Rev HEIDEMANN of the Calumet Finnish Lutheran church officiated. The bride was supported by Miss Tena KINZEL, a sister of the groom and the best man was August JOHNSON, a brother of the bride. NEWS ITEM- Mrs. Nellie TRETHEWEY and Miss Maud ROSCORLA left Lake Linden this week for their home at Wakefield, Michigan after a 3 week stay with relatives. MARRIAGE -Christopher TREVARROW married Miss Eva Johanna JOHNSON at the home of the groom in Mohawk location, last Saturday evening. The bridesmaid was Miss Lydia JOHNSON, her sister and the best man was Richard TREVARROW. MARRIAGE- Harold E. LOREY, of Calumet married Miss Lizzie HARRY, daughter of Mr and Mrs. J. MARRIAGE- John JUNTKKA of Calumet married Miss Anna O'CONNOR of Calumet in Chicago, Illinois by Rev J. MULLENBACH, a former resident of Calumet. They will live in Calumet. ROWE of Detroit, Michigan is visiting in Calumet with her parents, for a short time. NEWS ITEM- James TREWHELLA, a former resident of the copper country, was married recently in Chicago, Illinois. The couple is spending a few days with his brother at Redridge. He graduated from the Medical Department of Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois. He has received an appointment from the Mission Board of the Methodist Episcopal Board to go to Angola, South Africa in December of this year. He will spend 3 months at a college in Liverpool, England before leaving for Africa. 1905 September 5 Tuesday DIED- Thomas P. TRATHEN, he had been a resident 45 years, of the copper country and he died at his Hurontown home on Sunday morning of a heart attack. He was born in 1837 in Devonshire, England. He leaves 8 children. The funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at the Hurontown Methodist Church. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1905 Sept 6 Wednesday DIED- The funeral of the late Elmer OTTO of Dollar Bay was held yesterday from St Francis Church, Dollar Bay. The burial was at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. NEWS ITEM- Martin JOHNSON of Laurium has gone to Bisbee, Arizona where he has a position awaiting him. 1905 September 6 Thursday NEWS ITEM- John MITCHELL, of Houghton has resigned his position with the VAN ORDEN Company and has gone to Virginia City, Minnesota where he will reside. They will reside in East Houghton. MARRIAGE-Henry T. HATTON, of Houghton married Miss VINNIE WHITTLE, daughter of Captain Thomas WHITTLE of the Quincy mine ., yesterday morning at the home of the bride's father in East Hancock. The bridesmaid was the bride's sister, Miss Unna WHITTLE and the best man was Albert HATTON, the groom's brother. The groom is employed as a shipping clerk at Ed M. LEIBLEIN's wholesale house in Hancock. They will live in Hancock. NEWS ITEM- Joseph BEAKLEY has left Hancock last night for Butte, Montana, where he will locate. MARRIAGE- Joseph STONE of Lake Linden married Miss Rose PAVALIK, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Matthew PAVALIK of Buffalo, North Dakota, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Lake Linden yesterday morning. The bride was attended by Miss Hattie STONE, sister of the groom and ?? STONE of Baraga, Baraga County, Michigan, cousin of the groom. They will live with the groom's parents in Lake Linden. MARRIAGE- George BENNETTS, of the Allouez mine, Keweenaw County married Miss Etta FAULL of Lake Linden, at the home of the bride's brother, Mr and Mrs. William J. FAULL of Lake Linden, last night. The bride was attended by Miss Lylia VINA and the best man was Charles BENNETTS of Hancock. The groom is a machinist at the Allouez mine. They will live at the Allouez mine. NEWS ITEM- Joseph KIRSCHWENG of Great Falls, Montana is visiting his mother in Hubbell. DEATH- A telegram was received here last evening from Mount Pleasant, Michigan with the information that Samuel LONG, formerly a resident of Osceola mine location, died yesterday. He left here six months ago and has been at Mount Pleasant, trying to recover from injuries in an accident, having his arm and leg broken. It was the injuries that caused his death. He was for a number of years a bookkeeper in the employ of the Johnson VIVIAN, in the Osceola mine store. He leaves a wife and two children who leave today for Mount Pleasant where he will be buried. MARRIAGE- Bernard LAUX of Houghton married Miss Mary RAGAN of Houghton, yesterday morning at St Ignatius Catholic Church, Houghton. The bride was attended by her cousin, Miss Agnes O'LEARY and the best man was John LAUX, the groom's brother. 1905 September 8 Friday YESTERDAY -MARRIAGE LICENSES ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK William BAGEMEHL of Sheboygan, Wisconsin and Miss Hattie DEMROW of Calumet Herman RADUCHEL and Edith PRISK, both of Hubbell DIED- William W. ELLIS, aged 63 years, a pioneer resident of Calumet, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm CRUSE in West Hancock yesterday. When a young man he went to Red Jacket and lived there many years. Six months ago he gave up work to come to Hancock. He was a former Calumet village clerk. He had been in the area 10 years. The funeral will be on Sunday at the home with a short service there and burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. DIED- John HARRY, a Finnish farmer and resident of Highway for a long period, died at his home at that place, Wednesday morning due to consumption. He is survived by a wife and two sons. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Hancock Finnish Lutheran church. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. NEWS ITEM- Henry POPE and William CARTER of Hurontown, left Tuesday for Bisbee, Arizona where they will make their homes. NEWS ITEM- Patrick TUMEY of the Osceola location has gone to Butte, Montana. where he will locate permanently. NEWS ITEM- John and Henry EDDY of Kearsarge have gone to Arizona, where they will make their home in the future. NEWS ITEM- Mr and Mrs. John D. ROGERS of Calumet have gone to CORNWALL, ENGLAND where they will spend 6 weeks with friends and relatives in their old hometown. 1905 September 9 Saturday MARRIAGE- Richard RENOWDEN of Mohawk married Miss Mary Ann NICHOLAS of Mohawk, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr and Mrs. Wm NICHOLAS at Mohawk, last Saturday. They will live at the Quincy location. DIED- Isaac W. OLSON, aged about 40 years, a widower, in the employ of the Quincy mine, was killed by a piece of timber that was thrown from the working floor of No 2 rock house. He leaves seven children to mourn his loss. The funeral services will be this afternoon from the Hancock Norwegian Lutheran church. Burial will be at the Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. DIED- Olaf PARANEN, aged 83 years, died after a lengthy illness at his home in Calumet yesterday. He was one of the oldest Finnish residents in the copper country, having come to this area about 30 years ago and residing here ever since. He was a widower and left no children. The funeral will take place this afternoon from the Calumet Finnish church on 9th street. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. DIED- William E. TIMBY's body was found in Eagle Harbor yesterday and his death was due to suicide by drowning in the bay. The funeral will be this afternoon from his home. Burial will be at Eagle Harbor Cemetery, Keweenaw County. NEWS ITEM- Alfred PASCOE of Tamarack mine location will leave soon for CORNWALL, ENGLAND, where he will visit for a short time at his old home. He will than set sail for South Africa where he will locate. DIED- The funeral of the late Mrs. Anna URFELS was held yesterday morning at St Ignatius church, Houghton. She came to the copper country 50 years ago and she lived in Houghton a greater part of that time. A daughter, Mrs. George WILLMER and a son- Joseph URFELS survive her. LOKASAARI and Maria Sofia LEPPALA, both of Calumet DIED- Word was received in Hancock Sunday of the death in Anaconda, Montana of Axel LINDVALL, aged about 32 years, a son of Mr and Mrs. Gustav LINDVALL of Quincy. The body will be shipped to Hancock in a few days. He was born and raised in Hancock. He was a veteran of the Spanish American war, going to Cuba. He is survived by his parents, three brothers- Frank: Victor and George and one sister, Mrs. Ellen HENDRICKSON of West Hancock. Funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at the Hancock Congregational church and burial at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. NEWS ITEM- Charles G. CROSBY resigned his position in the Calumet and Hecla mine supply department and with his wife, has gone to Lexington, near Port Huron, Michigan to engage in farming. MARRIED- Emil ERICKSON married Miss Johanna ERICKSON, both of Calumet at the Calumet Swedish Methodist church on Saturday night. DIED- The funeral of Mrs. Hercule BARIL was held yesterday morning at St Joseph's Church, Lake Linden. They will live at the WHITTLE home in East Hancock. NEWS ITEM- John HEFFERMAN of Hancock left Monday night for Butte, Montana, where he will locate in the future. MARRIAGE- Norman A. GOODE of Willerding, Pennsylvania married Miss Viola GRAY, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Francis GRAY, of Lake Linden, at the bride's parents home, yesterday. Miss Anna GRAY, sister of the bride was the bridesmaid, the best man was Jay HORNIBROOK of Duluth, Minnesota. Miss Bessie PHILLIP of Calumet played the wedding march. The groom's mother, Mrs. Ella HORNIBROOK was present. They will live in Willerding. DIED- Mrs. Helena CONLEY, aged 51 years of Hubbell, died at the home of her son, of heart failure as she reached his door. She was born in Copper Harbor, Keweenaw County in 1854 and the family lived there for a number of years. Eleven years ago they moved to Hubbell and there her husband died shortly after coming there. Four daughters and two sons survive her- George; William; Emma; Kathryn; Mary; and Anna, all residents of Hubbell. The funeral will be Thursday at St Cecelia's Church, Hubbell. Burial will be at Mount Calvary, Lake Linden. MARRIAGE- Paul FOURNIER married Miss Barbara VOLLMER, both of Hubbell, yesterday morning at St Cecelia's Church. NEWS ITEM- Fred MEYERS and three children left Calumet to go to Portland, Oregon to make their home there permanently. NEWS ITEM- Harry SKEWES, and Richard BISHOP, both of Kearsarge have gone to CORNWALL, ENGLAND to visit their relatives and friends for three months at their former homes. 1905 September 14 Thursday DIED- John OYALA, aged 27 years, died at his boarding house in West Hancock last Wednesday after a short illness. He was single and is survived by two brothers and two sisters.The funeral will be held this afternoon from the Hancock Finnish Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. MARRIAGE- Richard J. CAMERON of Hancock married Miss Hazel J. BROWN, daughter of Mrs. Mary A. BROWN at the home of the bride's mother in Calumet, on Tuesday night. They will live in Hancock where the groom has an excellent position. NEWS ITEM- Mrs. William ROWE of Laurium left this week for Butte, Montana to join her husband who is located there. MARRIAGE -Will RICHARDS of Painesdale married Miss Pearl BAWDEN, at the bride's home in Eagle River, Keweenaw County, on Thursday. Her brother Milton BAWDEN of Mohawk attended the wedding. DIED- John K. JOHNSON, aged 18 years, son of Mr and Mrs. Herman JOHNSON, at his home in Mohawk of pneumonia on Monday. The funeral was held at the Calumet Finnish Lutheran church on Wednesday. Burial was at the Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGE- John DEEGAN of Mohawk location married Miss Edna PAQUETTE, of Mohawk, on Tuesday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Calumet. Miss Bertha POQUETTE was the bridesmaid and James PAQUETTE was the best man. They will reside in Calumet. MARRIAGE-William HOGDAHL married Miss Amelia NORGORD, both of Dollar Bay yesterday afternoon, at the Dollar Bay Swedish Church. They will reside in Dollar Bay where the groom is employed at the Lake Superior Rolling Mills. NEWS ITEM- Joseph KIRSCHWENG returned to his home at Great Falls, Montana, after spending ten days with relatives at Lake Linden and Hubbell. NEWS ITEM- George FARRELL who has been employed at the Quincy mine blacksmith shop has resigned his position and will leave in a few days for Central City, Colorado where he will make his future home. NEWS ITEM- Arthur COLE and Robert OSBORNE, both of the Quincy mine will leave in a few days for CORNWALL, ENGLAND. Mr COLE will remain in CORNWALL permanently and Mr OSBORNE is making up his mind to remain there or return. MARRIAGE- Michael McANDREWS of Hancock married Miss Mary DOYLE of Hancock, at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Hancock yesterday morning. He came into the office a few minutes before and told Mr. MEOLA he was not feeling well and while sitting in the office a few minutes he just fell to the floor. He came to America a few years ago and his father is working at the Trimountain mine. The funeral will be held this morning from St Joseph's Catholic Church, Hancock. Burial will be at the old Catholic cemetery, Hancock. DIED-Robert W. McKELVEY, aged 77 years, died yesterday at his home in Calumet. He resided in Calumet the past seven years, coming here from Marquette, Marquette County, Michigan. He leaves three sons and 2 daughters- Robert of Marquette; John and Wm of Calumet; Mrs. M. WENTWORTH of Marquette and Mrs. DOWNEY of Michigamee. The body will be taken to Marquette for burial. NEWS ITEM- Herman WESSELL and ten children left Hancock Tuesday night for Los Angeles, California where they will make their future home. MARRIAGE- Arthur J. VINE married Miss Hazel ORA, both of Calumet, at the Calumet Congregational church, Tuesday evening. NEWS ITEM- Mrs. Richard JEFFERIES of the Tamarack location has gone to CORNWALL, ENGLAND, where she will locate at her old home town. DIED- John HOLLOW, aged 19 years, died at his home in Tamarack location of tuberculosis. Funeral will be at his home tomorrow. He will be buried in Lake View cemetery, Calumet. He had been a resident of this region for many years. He is survived by a wife and eight children- Mrs. CARROLL; Mrs. GAREY; Mrs. John TURVILLE; Mrs. John COUGHLIN; John: Jeremiah; Michael and Willard. Also a sister- Mrs. Julia SHEA of Laurium. Burial will be at St Patrick's Church, Hancock tomorrow. Burial at the old Catholic cemetery, Hancock. NEWS ITEM-Daniel O'NEIL and Dennis SHEA of Quincy location left last night for Butte, Montana, where they will locate. DIED- The funeral of the late Jacob MESSNER aged about 45 years, who died at his home in South Range, was held yesterday afternoon from his home. The burial was held at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. He lived in South Range for one year and before that lived 25 years at the Atlantic mine. He was employed as a timber man in the mine. He leaves a wife and nine children. DIED- John POMROY, aged 75 years, died yesterday morning at his home in Lake Linden. He was one of the oldest residents in Lake Linden. He was born in 1830 in Devonshire, England and he came to this country in 1867 and lived for 2 years in Hancock.. He than moved, with his family, to Calumet for the next 3 years. After that he moved to Lake Linden and lived there till his death. There are seven children to mourn him- William J.; Thomas H.; Richard E.; James; Charles and Mrs. Joseph JILBERT, all of Lake Linden; Mrs. Thomas WILLIAMS of the Quincy mine; and Mrs. William C. HARRIS of Larimore, North Dakota. The funeral will be Sunday afternoon at the Lake Linden Methodist Church .. Burial will be at Maple Hill cemetery, Lake Linden. MARRIAGE- Mr M. H. She was born in Ireland and had been a resident of the copper country about 30 years. Her parents brought her direct to the copper country on coming to America. NEWS ITEM- Jerry NAGEL of Butte, Montana who had been visiting in Hancock for a few weeks, returned yesterday for Butte. DIED- Mrs. John STONE, aged 66 years, died at her home in Lake Linden yesterday of cancer. She was one of the oldest residents of Lake Linden having lived there the past 35 years. Her maiden name was McNAMARA and was born in 1829 in County Claire, Ireland. As a small girl her family lives in Boston a short time then came to Calumet for a short time, finally moving to Lake Linden when it was a very small town. She leaves her husband and three children- John of Keweenaw Bay; Joseph and Mary living at home. The funeral will take place this morning at St Joseph's church. He heard their billing and cooing and listened to their words of love, he heard them talking of the coming wedding. He then asked them would they like him to marry them on the train, they agreed. DIED- Josiah HALL, aged 83 years, mine inspector of Houghton County for many years, died yesterday morning at his home in Houghton, due to old age. He was born 1822 July 22 in ST DAY, parish In GWENNAP, CORNWALL, ENGLAND and was the son of Richard and Mary (EASTMAN) HALL. The father was a native of Yorkshire County, England and was a miner by occupation. In the family were two daughters and three sons. He married in 1849 to Miss Fannie GROSS. When still a young man he emigrated to America, going to the Cliff mine in Keweenaw County to work in the mine. After 16 years at the Cliff mine he was transferred to New York for two years. He came back to the Cliff mine, and after that went to the Northwestern mine as superintendent. He then went to the Pewabic mine, Centennial mine and the Calumet and Hecla mine. In 1882 he was given the position of Mine Inspector in Houghton County till his death. In 1882 he became a bank director and stockholder when the First National bank was organized. He is survived by his wife and 11 children-Mrs. Mary MacDONALD of Duluth, Minnesota; Mrs. F. BUTLER of Calumet; Horatio; William: Josiah; Richard; John; Charles; Fred all of Calumet; Henry of Duluth and Thomas of Salem, Oregon. He came from Detroit, Michigan last May to spend his last days at the Atlantic home of his son. He had no other relatives as his wife died 6 years ago. She was born in Essex, Germany and came to America at age 33 years and for the next 30 years lived in Hancock, when the town was in its infancy. She then moved to Sheboygan, Wisconsin where she lived for 9 years. She then moved to Hancock and later came to Hubbell to be with her daughter. He was born in Luxenburg, Germany and at age 20 years he came to this country, settling in Chicago, Illinois, where he lived for 4 years. He came to Lake Linden and lived there 32 years until his death. For 23 years he worked at the Calumet and Hecla mine as a boiler coverer. He was in Calumet for several years, until his health required him to seek a less severe climate in Arizona and from there he went to his home in Pana. He is survived by a wife and young son, who was born in Calumet. He was buried in Pana. DIED- James H. GLANVILLE, aged 55 years, another pioneer of this part of Houghton county, died at his Tamarack City homer of cancer. He was born in Dodgeville, Wisconsin 1850 June 19. He came to Houghton County 18 years ago and spent the first year in Lake Linden, then moved to Tamarack City where he stayed till his death. In 1872 he married Miss Mariam JAMES in Dodgeville, who survives him and they had three children- Clarence of Mass City; Lulu and Mary and his mother, all 3 living at home.
