DIED- William SAMPSON died at his home in Hurontown on New Years day morning of pulmonary troubles. He had been in the West for a year trying to get his health back but to no avail. He was a member of SAMPSON Brothers, a grocer's in Hurontown. He leaves a wife, one child and several brothers and sisters. The funeral will be held today the Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1905 January 4 Wednesday DIED- Mrs. Caroline LANG, aged 72 years, wife of William LANG of Ripley, died at her home yesterday after a short illness. She was born in Devonshire, England and came to the United States with her husband, in 1860, settling for a time at the Holyoke mine in Marquette County, Michigan. The family moved to the Boston location mine in Houghton County and 40 years ago moved to Ripley. Her husband had been associated for a long time with the various branches of the copper industry in Ripley. He retired some time ago. She is survived by her husband, and ten children. Richard B. LANG, postmaster of Houghton, William, Superintendent of the foundry at the Homestead Mine in Lead, South Dakota; George of Lead, South Dakota; Edward of Great Falls, Montana; Thomas H.; John; Fred and Charles H. all 4 of Houghton; and Mrs. B.J. CRAWFORD of Hancock. The funeral will be tomorrow from the Hancock Congregational church. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. KATAJARI and Miss Gustav HOLLAPA of Baltic 1905 January 5 Thursday DIED- Mine Captain Harry BAWDEN, aged 39 years, of Mass City, Ontonagon County, Michigan, was killed by a fall of rock in the Mass mine on Tuesday night. He was an old and experienced mining man. He leaves a family in Mass City and a sister, Mrs. JOHNS at the Atlantic mine, Houghton County. He was born at the old Caledonian mine in Greenland Township, Ontonagon County where he spent his whole life. He left a wife and two daughters and a brother in Butte, Montana. MARRIAGE- James GREGORY married Miss Edith COLE of Atlantic mine, about December 10, 1904 was recently announced. DIED- George Warren EMERY, postmaster of the city of Hancock, died yesterday afternoon at St Joseph's hospital, Hancock of pneumonia. He was born in Houghton 1864 March 8, being 40 years old. Outside of a few years in Duluth, Minnesota while young, his entire life was spent in Hancock. He leaves a wife, Ada M. and nine children- Russell; DeWitt; Warren; Grace; Ruth ; Percy; Rexford; Fern and Glenn. He was married in Brighton, Michigan, 18 years ago to Miss Ada M. SLEETH. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Lavinia EMERY of Battle Creek, Michigan, and a sister. James H. SLEETH, a brother to his wife, will attend the funeral. The funeral will be held in the Hancock city hall tomorrow morning. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. NEWS ITEM- Peter SANDRETTO sustained severe injuries while at work wiping a man engine at Tamarack shaft No 3. A crank hit him in the temple, creating a severe gash. DIED- John H. JONES aged 69 years, died at his home in Kearsage on Tuesday night of a heart attack. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. He lived in Kearsarge for the last 7 years, coming here from Ironwood, Michigan. He is survived by 7 children, 4 of them are boys, also a brother, David of Chicago, Illinois. The funeral will be held at the Red Jacket Congregational church on Sunday. They will live in Portage Lake where the groom is employed. 1905 January 7 Saturday DIED- Michael SULLIVAN of Calumet, died of appendicitis at the Calumet and Hecla hospital, Calumet, yesterday morning. He is survived by a wife, six young children, and a sister, Miss Mary SULLIVAN, and a brother J. J. SULLIVAN. The funeral will take place tomorrow from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. NEWS ITEM- John DAVIDSON left Calumet last night for his old home in NORWAY. He will stay there permanently. NENWS ITEM- Uno SODERGREN left Calumet yesterday for Minneapolis, Minnesota where he will make his future home. He went with his wife and young son, Carl. He will work with a chemical plant there. 1905 January 8 Sunday DIED- Mrs. Edward LAMARCHE, aged 60 years, died yesterday morning at her Calumet home of pneumonia. She was born in Canada in 1844 and 31 years ago she came to Calumet after living in Green Bay, Wisconsin a short time. She is survived by four grown children- Joseph and George, both of Calumet; Mrs. Arthur HAULT of the Canadian SOO; and Mrs. Fred THERRIN of Lake Linden. The funeral will take place from St Anne's church, Calumet on Monday. The burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. NEWS ITEM- Samuel NANKERVIS and Richard RICHARDS left Mohawk mine location Wednesday for Denver, Colorado where they will make their future homes. NEWS ITEM- William HILL left Calumet for Grand Rapids, Michigan where he is now employed, after visiting his relatives in Calumet for a short time. DIED- Mrs. Henry KLEMUNKLE, aged 35 years, died at her home in Centennial Heights, after a lengthy illness on Saturday. The funeral will take place Monday from the Calumet Finnish Lutheran church on Pine Street, The burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. DIED- Mrs. Mack JOLLIE of Tamarack City died yesterday morning at her home due to heart trouble. She with her husband and family were one of the first to settle in Tamarack City, when it was in it's infancy .The funeral will be Monday morning from St Cecelia's church, Hubbell. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. She leaves a family. 1905 January 10 Tuesday DIED -Marku PENNANEN, aged 19 years, died Sunday in St Joseph's hospital, Hancock of consumption. He had no relatives in the County and the funeral took place yesterday afternoon. Burial was at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. 1905 January 11 Wednesday DIED- William PENROSE, a miner in the Victoria Mine, Rockland, Ontonagon County, Michigan died in the mine when the skip wire broke and dropped him to the bottom of the shaft. Also killed were Sam GUMAC, Mike MARATOVICH and Victor SYOQUIST. DIED- John OLIVER, aged 66 years, died at his home in Tamarack after a long illness of cancer of the stomach. He was born in Canada and came to the Tamarack mine location 30 years ago. He is survived by his wife and six grown children. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon from St Anne's church, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. NEWS ITEM- Edward RICHARDS of Calumet left yesterday afternoon for CORNWALL. ENGLAND to visit relatives and friends for several months. DIED- Henry CORNELLIER, aged 19 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Amedie CORNELLEIR, died at home in Houghton yesterday morning of consumption. The funeral will be held at St. Ignatius church tomorrow. The funeral will take place this afternoon at the Atlantic church and cemetery. DIED- Mrs. Wm. G. SATTERLEY, aged about 35 years, died at her home at the North Kearsarge mine yesterday afternoon -She is survived by a husband and two children. The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon from the Kearsarge Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Mrs. Peter DOBLE of Butte, Montana is her sister. YESTERDAY-MARAIAGE LICENSES ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK Edward REGULER and Miss Mary BEAUCHA and Amalia HAUATANDEMI of Calumet 1905 January 17 Tuesday DIED- The funeral of the late Patrick SULLIVAN, aged 35 years, who died at his home in Hurontown on Friday morning, was held yesterday morning at St Ignatius church, Houghton. Burial was at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. He spent the last 12 years of his life in Butte, Montana and coming from there to Hurontown. He is survived by his brother, Cornelius of Butte, Montana; and three sisters- Mrs. John WAGNER and Mrs. William KLINGHAMMER, both of Hurontown and Mrs. James CASEY, of Hancock. YESTERDAY MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK Frank GERICH and Annie KRUPPICH, both of Calumet NEWS ITEM- Mr. and Mrs. Samuel SHUGG, Jr. of Calumet have gone to Crystal Falls, Michigan where they will join his parents and will locate for the future. DIED- Lizzie BEUGANDER, aged 17 years, of Calumet, died Sunday of tuberculosis. The funeral will take place this morning from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1905 January 18 Wednesday MARRIAGE- Edward REGNIER, of Hancock married Miss Marie BAUCHAMP, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph BAUCHAMP, of Hancock, at St Joseph's church, Hancock yesterday morning. The best man was Oliver DATEAU and the bridesmaid was Miss Mary TOURVILLE They will reside in West Hancock. DIED- John HODGE of Hubbell has received word that his father, Reuben HODGE, died in TREMAN, LISKEARD, CORNWALL, ENGLAND, on Dec 28, 1904 of asthma, which he had suffered for many years. He was born in 1840 and at age 20 came to America and lived in Silver Plumer and Clear Creek, both in Colorado. He than came to Central Mine in the 1860's in Keweenaw County for many years. He returned to CORNWALL and lived in St CLEER Parish till his death 10 years later. He was buried in the St Cleer cemetery. He leaves three brothers in this country- John HODGE of Hubbell, Reuben of Great Falls, Montana and Henry of Lake Linden. YESTERDAY- MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK William J. GIPP and Louisa BEAUDETTE of Calumet DIED- Erick GULLIO, aged about 28 years, a trammer at the Quincy mine, was killed by coming in, contact with a live wire in the mine yesterday morning. The funeral will be held at St Patrick's church in Hancock this afternoon. Burial will be at the Lakeside cemetery, Hancock . NEWS ITEM- Adolphus GOODREAU, formerly as trammer boss at the Quincy mine has purchased a farm near Chassell and will move there to work the farm. DIED- Mrs. P. G. BAUMGARTNER, aged 71 years, died at her home in Jacobsville, on Tuesday. She resided at the Jacobstow, Quarries for the past 20 years, 18 of which she ran a boardinghouse. She is survived by a husband, a sister-Mrs. David SUTTON and a brother- William McINTOSH .She was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. At 8 years of age she moved to Western Ontario, Canada where she married Mr. FRIEDER and he died 6 years after they were married. Her father, with her, moved to the Quincy mine where he had a position. She married Mr. BAUMGARTNER at Marquette, Marquette County. They went to Chicago to live and her husband lost everything due to the Chicago fire. They then moved to Benton to live for 6 years, finally winding up in Jacobstow. The funeral will take place this afternoon at Grace Methodist church. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. DIED- Mrs. Mary CHINN, aged 70 years, died yesterday morning at her home in Kearsarge after a long illness. She was born in TRESLOTHAN, CAMBORNE, CORNWALL ENGLAND and in 1868 came to this country settling at the Central mine, Keweenaw County. She lived there 26 years and came to Kearsarge and lived here ever since. She is survived by a husband, James, and five children -James of Oakland, California, Mrs. William BRYANT of Kearsarge; Mrs. A. NICHOLLS of Osceola; Henry of Ely, Minnesota and Mrs. Noah BENNETTS of Portage Lake. The funeral will take place Saturday from the Kearsarge Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGE- Frank G. SMITH of Lake Linden married Miss Gretta JOHNSON of Hubbell, last night, at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. Louis STEEHLER of Hubbell.. The bride was attended by Misses FRIMADIG and LARSON of Calumet and the groom by Messrs. H. Walter SMITH, brother of the groom and George McDONALD. They will make their home in Lake Linden. 1905 January 20 Friday MARRIAGE- William J. JAMES of Houghton married Miss Nettie ANDERSON of Calumet at the Pewabic Methodist church parsonage, Wednesday evening.. The groom was attended by his brother, Chester JAMES and the bride was attended by Miss Pearl CLEMO. They will reside in Houghton. NEWS ITEM- Patrick SHEA has arrived in Hurontown from Ironwood, Michigan due to the illness of his father, Michael SHEA. DIED- Peter DeYRIEND, aged 45 years, died at his home at the Portage Entry near Jacobstow, He was born in Belguim. He leaves a widow and three children. The funeral will be held at Chassell tomorrow. NEWS ITEM- Patrick SCANLON and Michael CASEY, both of Butte, Montana are guests of P. C. SCANLON of Quincy Hill this week. NEWS ITEM- Mike BALDWIN and Peter PILLGRIM, both Italians at Quincy hill, will leave next Sunday for their old homes in Italy where they will stay permanently. NEWS ITEM- Roland RICHARDS, a resident of Quincy for some time, will leave in a few days for his old home in CORNWALL, ENGLAND where he will spend the winter. NEWS ITEM-Mrs. Thomas SMITH and her son, James of Lake Linden, returned yesterday from Flint, Michigan, where they attended the funeral of Mrs. SMITH's Son-in-law. He was well known in Lake Linden having lived here a spell. DIED- Mrs. Grace A. CARTER, aged 50 years, died at her home in Red Jacket shaft location of a nervous ailment, which she had for seven years. She was born In Dodgeville, Wisconsin in 1854 and came to Calumet in 1877 and lived here till her death. She is survived by her husband, Henry, and six children- William; Edward; Fred; George; and Herbert all of Calumet and also Mrs. Thomas IVY of Spokane, Wisconsin. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon from the Red Jacket Congregational church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. DIED- Mrs. Sarah GOODFELLOW, aged 29 years, died at her home in Painesdale, Thursday evening. She was born in Pennsylvania 1875 February 7. She married John GOODFELLOW at Calumet, nine years ago. The remains were taken to the home of her mother Mrs. William HOLLOW in Calumet. She leaves her husband, and an eight years old son, her mother, four sisters- Mrs. John DOWER of Baltic; Miss Minnie BUCKETT of Painesdale; Mrs. Bessie CROTHERS of Tamarack and Miss Carrie BUCKETT of Calumet and two brothers- James BUCKETT of Calumet and William BUCKETT of Baltic. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at the Kearsarge Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1905 January 21 Saturday DIED- Abram NIVA, aged about 22 years, was injured at the Quincy mine on Thursday due to a mine accident and died yesterday at St Joseph's hospital, Hancock of his injuries. He has two sisters in Calumet. He had worked at the Quincy mine a short time. The funeral will be held from the Finnish Apostolic church, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery. DIED- The funeral of Thomas KINNEY, who died at his home in West Hancock on Wednesday, was held yesterday morning at St Patrick's church, Hancock. Burial was at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. NEWS ITEM- John GLANVILLE of Dodgeville, Wisconsin arrived in Lake Linden yesterday due to the illness of his brother, James, who has been ill and confined to his home. 1905 January 22 Sunday DIED- Nelson A. BRULE, aged 46 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. BRULE of Walkerville, Montana died at his parents home last Monday after a few days illness of a stroke. He was born in Houghton, Michigan and went to Montana a year ago. He is survived by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. The funeral was held from the home of the parents at Walkerville. 1905 January 23 DIED- After a short funeral service in the house at Painesdale, the remains of the late Mrs. John GOODFELLOW were shipped to Calumet Friday. The funeral will be held this morning at the Red Jacket Congregational church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. She and her daughter, at her birth, were buried. She leaves a sister, Mrs. John HOLLOW. 1905 January 24 DIED- Richard HARRIS, aged 64 years, died at his home in Laurium due to apoplexy on Sunday night, January 22. He was sick for one year. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. He came to this area when there was nothing but a mining location visible. He is survived by a wife and 3 children- William, assistant clerk at the Tamarack mine; Alfred, assistant supply clerk for the same mine; and Mrs. Gus DONALD of the Kearsarge mine location. The funeral will be held at the Laurium Methodist church this afternoon. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. NEWS ITEM- Mrs. William G. CRUSE leaves today for Pocatello, Idaho to join her husband there. She has a job as cashier at a bank there awaiting her. NEWS ITEM- John JACKA of Calumet has accepted a job in the engineering department of the Adventure mine, Ontonagon County. He is a graduate of the Michigan College of Mines. He will be in the assaying department at the mine. PROBATE MATTER- In the matter of the estate of William J. RUTHERFORD, deceased, Alfred J. LORD asked the court to appoint him as administrator of the estate - DIED- 1905 January 22 Sunday- James McLaughlin BUZZO died in Calumet near the Calumet and Hecla mine. He was born in Dumfries, Scotland 1849 October 7. He was 55 years old. He came to the United States as a small boy with his parents, and after reaching manhood spent 9 years in the United States Navy. After that he worked as a machinist and learned the trade. The last 18 years he was an employee of the Calumet and Hecla Mining company. He leaves a wife and four children besides a brother, Capt. Thomas BUZZO of Laurium and a sister of Laurium. The funeral will take place this afternoon at the home and burial will be at Maple Hill cemetery, Lake Linden. DIED- 1905 January 23 Monday -Gus HISSONEN of Atlantic died yesterday from an accident while unloading logs from a Mineral Range Railroad flatcar. The logs rolled towards him and he could not get out of the way in time as they crushed him. He was about 50 years old. He leaves a wife and six children, most grown up. The funeral was held yesterday at the Finnish church at Atlantic and burial was at the Atlantic cemetery. 1905 January 25 Wednesday NEWS ITEM- the Misses Margaret and Paola and John CHIGGIA and Miss Anna BUG, left Calumet yesterday for Los Angeles, California and will stay there permanently. 1905 January 26 Thursday NEWS ITEM- 1905 January 24 Tuesday night, Isaac HUBBALA was injured underground in Number 3 shaft in the Atlantic mine by falling rock. DEATH- the funeral of the late Charles CARRON will take place at St Anne's church, Calumet tomorrow. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Widow is Margaret. 1905 January 27 Friday DIED- 1905 January 25 Wednesday night, John and Jacob KOSUNEN, brothers, died from a premature blast in the Champion mine. They began working on January 19 and they worked at the Franklin, Junior mine before this. They have no relatives in the copper country and the officials are trying to decide who will pay for their burial. DIED- 1905 January 26, Florence, the 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Felix McCARTHY died at her home in Freda of consumption. She was a student at the Freda- Beacon Hill school. DIED- 1905 January 26, early Thursday morning, two Finnish miners, John REINI and Matti AHO, were killed by a premature blast in the No 5 shaft of the Tamarack mine. Mr. AHO was about 39 years old and had worked for the mine for one year. Five years ago he came from Finland and left a wife and 5 children in Finland. Mr. REINI was also a married man, with a wife and several children in Finland. The funeral for both men will take place Saturday afternoon from the Calumet Finnish Lutheran church. Both will be buried at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGE-1905 January 26, Tuesday, Norman McLEOD of Calumet married Miss Clara REUTHER at the home of the bride's father, Jacob REUTHER , in Calumet. The bride was attended by Miss Katherine McLEOD, sister of the groom and the best man was Fred REUTHER of Ely, Minnesota. They will live in Laurium. DOUGHERTY of Calumet married Miss Marie COLLINS of Bay City, Michigan., at the home of the groom's father in Calumet. DIED- James GLANVILLE, aged 65 years, of Lake Linden died yesterday morning at his home. He lived in Lake Linden the last 19 years. He was born in Linden, Wisconsin 1840 December 11, after a few years his CORNISH family moved to Dodgeville, Wisconsin where he learned the trade as a tinsmith. He moved to Lake Linden in 1858 and worked for Joseph PEARCE , who owns one of the largest hardware stores in Houghton County. He is survived by 6 children -five daughters, Mrs. Joseph FRANKS of Lake Linden; Mrs. John HODGE of HUBBELL; and Misses Clymene, Laura and Olive, also Edgar, all of Lake Linden. He leaves three brothers- John and Charles of Lindern, Wisconsin and Albert of Chicago. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at the residence. 1905 January 29- Sunday MARRIED- 1905 January 28, At the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Jane McKENZIE in Houghton, Mr. Harry SHARP and Miss Fannie McKENZIE. Mr. and Mrs. Walter McKIVAR attended the couple. They will reside in Houghton. DIED-1905 January 28 Friday, Timothy HARRINGTON, aged 75 years, died at his home in the Franklin Mine location from a complication of diseases. He was born in Ireland and came to America when a young man. He has been a resident of Houghton for 40 years. He has been a miner all his life. He leaves a son, John HARRINGTON of Franklin mine location. The funeral will be at St Patrick's church, Hancock. Burial will be at the Old Catholic cemetery, Hancock.. 1905 January 31 1905 Jany 30 -MARRIAGE LICENSES ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK George KOLTZE and Maria STERBENZ of Calumet Tim HOCK and Paulina GRGNONC of Trimountain DIED- 1905 January 30 Monday, Ernest MORCUM, a miner employed at the Franklin. JR mine, a resident of the Boston location, was killed by walking into the mineshaft and dropped to his death. He came to this country a short time ago from his native land, CORNWALL, ENGLAND. He was a young man and unmarried. Burial was at the Methodist church, Hancock on Wednesday afternoon and burial was at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. He leaves parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers are in CORNWALL. He had a first cousin, James MORCUM who was a pallbearer. DIED-1905 January 29 Saturday night, Mrs. Hugh JAMES, aged 56 years, died at her home in the Osceola Mining location after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Hugh JAMES, head mining captain of the Osceola mine. She was born in Australia and came to the copper country as a small child and has resided here ever since. For many years she resided at Red Jacket and five months ago moved to the Osceola mine. She is survived by her husband and three children Mrs. Archie McALPINE of Spokane, Washington; Mrs. Edward JAMES of Calumet and Miss Ellen JAMES of Osceola mine. The funeral will take place this afternoon at the Calumet Congregational church and burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Hecla branch Shaft No 6, as a result of falling rock striking him and causing instant death. His body was taken to his home in Laurium. He worked for the mine for a number of years. He leaves a widow, and several children. The funeral will take place on Friday from the Calumet Methodist church and burial will be at Lake View cemetery. DIED- 1905 February 2 Thursday, Frank DERDILLNO, aged 22 years, was killed at the Mohawk mine from a fall of rock. He had been in this country 6 months. NEWS ITEM-- 1905 February 1, Archie MELO was seriously injured skidding some logs at the North Tamarack mine shaft house. He was piling some logs and without warning time came rolling down and smothered him to death. He was taken to the Tamarack hospital where it is thought it might be critical. He is suffering with fracture of the skull. He leaves a wife and two children. DIED- 1905 February 8 -One dead Peter KULPA; 3 missing- William POLLITTS, John KARVEKA and Henry MISSILLA; Injured- Joseph MOYLE, William WILLS; suffered from suffocation- Gus DONALD, Ben ORCHARD; John NEVORE ; William WILLS, Wilfrid HUMPHREY and Peter PUTAI, but were practically freed from their suffering, from No 3 shaft is on fire and the shafts are closed down to seal off the fires from an explosion in the Kersarge mine. A party, led by Capt. BISCOMBE went down in the mine to try to save the men left there. The injured were taken to the Tamarack hospital for treatment. Peter KULPA, the man who is dead is about 35 years, and is survived by a wife and 3 children. He died of suffocation. Funeral was from home, burial at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. NEWS ITEM- Yesterday afternoon Peter BROEFELT and family will leave in a few days from Calumet for Finland, his birthplace, where he will take up residence again. DIED- Miss Lena RALPH, a patient at the Michigan State Asylum at Newberry, Michigan died yesterday at the asylum. She was a former resident of Houghton, and is a sister of Mrs. Thomas DUNSTAN. She leaves a mother, Mrs. RALPH, a brother Phillip, and a sister Mrs. Thomas DUNSTAN, who survive her. The remains will arrive in Hancock today at the home of Mrs. DUNSTAN. He was born in Ireland and he came to the Lake Superior country in its early years. He was employed in different mines in his lifetime. She leaves her husband, daughter and parents. 1905 February 14 DIED- Five men were found dead in the fateful mine explosion in the Kearsarge mine last Wednesday. They were thought missing but were finally found. They are Henry NISSALA; Peter SAVALA; John KARVOLA; William PALLITTS and Matt KASKALLO. John KARVOLA was about 31 years old and is survived by a wife and one small child. He will be buried Thursday afternoon from Calumet Finnish National church, and burial at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Peter SAVALA is 35 years old, and is survived by a wife and one child; Henry NISSALA, was unmarried, about 30 years old, funeral arrangements have not been formed for these two. DIED- Early Sunday morning, Mrs. George THERRIEN, aged 70 years, one of Lake Linden's old residents, died at her home of pneumonia. She was born in Three Rivers, Canada in 1835 and came to this country 15 years ago and located in Lake Linden. Her first husband Narcis FOUNTAINE had been dead the past 20 years. Her current husband is in Canada. DIED- Word was received in Baltic, of the death of Minnie BURKE aged 23 years, wife of John of Baltic, who died Sunday at the Lucy mine location near Negaunee. She left Baltic two weeks ago to visit her parents at Negaunee, Marquette County. She had to have an operation but did not live thru it. She leaves her husband; and one 10 month old child. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the Mitchell Methodist church and burial was in Negaunee. 1905 February 16 Thursday DIED- Charles STANBERG, a trammer in the employ of the Trimountain mine, was struck by a piece of rock, on Tuesday night, that caused almost instant death in the mine. He was working with Paul HEIKANEN; and Matt MATSON. Richard TREVITHICK and James BORLACE, two miners working near were summoned to help with the injured man and he died while taking him to the surface. The coroners jury was made up of John S. JAMES; William RODDA; Oscar A. OJALA, William H. CRUSE; John SUNDINE and Benjamin GUY. TREVJTHICK told the jury of his being called by the trammers with STANBERG and helping take the body to the surface. STANBERG had been in the employ of the Trimountain mine for some time. He was about 40 years old. He is survived by a wife and six children. The funeral will be tomorrow from the Trimountain Finnish church. MARRIAGE- Last Tuesday, William SMITH, assistant superintendent of the Mohawk mine married Miss Alice KANE of Eagle Harbor, Keweenaw County, the service was performed at Marquette, Marquette County. They will make their home at the Mohawk mine. MARRIED- Last night, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Angus McLEAN, Calumet; Mr. Caesar BORGE married Miss Denuida McDONALD. The bride was attended by Miss Maude MENZIES and the best man was Henry McDUFF. They will reside in Calumet. DEATH- Yesterday afternoon, John COPPO, employed at the Calumet and Hecla Mining company was killed by being struck in the head by a piece of overhanging rock. DIED- Yesterday morning, Jerry MURPHY, aged 42 years, single, died at his home in West Houghton. He had been supporting his mother and his sister. He was born in Houghton. He was born in Ireland. He was employed at the Quincy mine for many years but retired from active duty some time ago. He resided in the copper country for over 30 years. DIED- Pupils of the Webster school at Newton, were preparing to take up their mornings work when they saw an elderly man staggering and in a condition they thought serious. A number of them helped him into a building and he was placed near the stove. A doctor was summoned and he found the man had died of a weak heart. He was Charles SALASSA, of Blue Jacket. He is survived by a wife and 4 sons- Charles; Joseph; Maurice all of Calumet and John of Chicago, Illinois. His wife is on her way to Italy and will be notified there when she lands. DIED- Word has been received by the family of Matt LUCAS, of Calumet that he died at Prince Albert, Canada. He is survived by a wife and 13 children. He was about 50 years old. He lived in Calumet for the past 22 years, coming here from Croatia. For 7 years he worked for the Calumet and Hecla mining company. He was interested in colonizing in Canada and 6 months ago he bought land in Prince Albert to prepare a home for his family. The remains will arrive by Sunday in Calumet. NEWS ITEM- A party of ten men consisting of experienced miners, timbermen and pumpmen left Hancock by train last night for New York en route to Cerro de PASCO copper mines, Peru. The men were hired by Angus McDONALD, the agent for the mines, from an advertisement in this paper some two weeks ago. The men are William HARRIS of Iron Mountain, Michigan; William HOLLEY of Trimountain; Richard JOHNSON; William SIMMONS; Henry COX; Richard CAMBORNE and John RICHARDS. The Cerro de Pasco mines are situated at the Northern end of Lake Junin, in the Corderilla mountains, Peru. They are about 118 miles from Callao. The mines are said to be remarkably high. Frank KLEPETKO is the consulting engineer, with offices in New York City. DIED-Angeletto VICTORIA, about 22 years old, died yesterday while working underground at the Osceola mine due to falling rock. He came from Italy 8 months ago. COUGHLIN, died last November at her home in Denver, Colorado. DOWNER was held from the family home in Hancock yesterday afternoon. Burial was at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. DIED- Mrs. Nicholas VOELKER died Saturday afternoon in Ishpeming, Marquette County, Michigan. She was one of the settlers of the Upper Peninsula and for a number of years resided in Ontonagon County, where her late husband conducted a brewery. She was born in Germany in 1828 and came to the United States in 1840, with her family locating in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1848 she married Mr. VOELKER. They went to Eagle River, Keweenaw County and a few years later went to Sault Ste. Marie where Mr. VOELKER built a brewery. In 1857 they came to Ontonagon and built another brewery. In 1866 the family moved to Negaunee, Marquette County and three years later to Negaunee. Mr. VOELKER died in 1891. She is survived by four children- Mrs. H. WENDEL and Mrs. M. BOEHM, both of Chicago, Illinois; George and Joseph VOELKER of Ishpeming. NEWS ITEM- William MITCHELL of the North Tamarack mine will leave Saturday for a three month trip to his former home in CORNWALL, ENGLAND where he will visit friends and family. 1905 February 25 Saturday PROBATE MATTER-In the matter of the estate of William J. SAMPSON, deceased, Annie SAMPSON, widow asked the court to appoint her the administratix of the estate dated 1905 February 3 MARRIAGE-Joseph VERTIN, of the firm VERTIN Brothers, of Calumet, was married in Chicago, Illinois to Miss Elizabeth THOMETZ, of Chicago. He made a secret of the date of the marriage, as it might have been either Wednesday or Thursday. DIED- Just as he was about to open his door of his Calumet home, Jacob WATERS, aged 37 years, dropped to the floor and died of a heart attack. He was born in Calumet in 1868. He had worked for the Calumet and Hecla Mining company till a short time ago. Then he worked next with the Continental Mining company till his death. He is survived by his mother, and three brothers: Edward; Charles; and John. Funeral took place Sunday afternoon at the Red Jacket Congregational church. Burial was at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1905 February 26 Sunday MARRIED- Last Thursday evening, at the residence of the pastor of St Ignatius Catholic Church, Houghton, Mr. William J. HANKEY married Miss Amanda MOON. The groom is of Houghton and the bride of Calumet. They will live in Houghton. NEWS ITEM- James ROWE, aged 42 years, of Calumet, married, lies in a critical condition in the Calumet and Hecla hospital. Julia EVETICH, aged 10 years, is injured by a flesh wound in the leg. James CUMMINGS, a strike breaker of Chicago, Illinois, is in the Laurium hospital of head injuries and a scalp wound. Three men got on the street car and started shooting. With ROWE shot in the breast and is in serious condition. The little girl had a bullet in the leg. ROWE's condition depends on whether the bullet entered the lung. The strike was at the street railway company in Laurium. 1905 February 28 Tuesday DIED- Alfred CADY, aged 47 years, died at his home in Marquette, Michigan, of pneumonia. He leaves a widow, two children, Leonard, 15 years old and Hazel, 13 years old. He entered the employ of the Franklin mining company as an engineer at the pump house and worked there till his death. His body was brought back to the Hancock residence for the funeral. He will be buried at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. DIED- John JANKALA died Sunday morning from injuries which he received in the Michigan mine, Ontonagon county, on Monday of last week. The burial was held last Monday at Rockland cemetery. DIED- Mrs. Levinus LANSING, of Mass City, Ontonagon County, died in Bangor, Maine on Thursday noon. She went there for the illness of her sister and her death was a shock to her friends at home. She and her husband, who survives her, came to Mass City when it first began. She will be buried at Bangor as her relatives are buried there. DIED- Peter McGINN, who with Daniel DOWDLE was injured in the Mass City mine Ontonagon County on February 17, with DOWDLE dying at once, died last Thursday of his injuries. DOWDLE was buried Sunday at the Greenland cemetery, he was 24 years old and born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. He had been in this country a couple of months and leaves no relatives here. McGINN was buried Wednesday in the Catholic cemetery in Greenland. He was 24 years old and has a brother in Duluth, Minnesota, who came to Mass City for the funeral. DIED- The funeral of Assari HYNILA took place yesterday afternoon from the Mohawk mine, where he died suddenly of pneumonia. He was a young man and had no relatives in Calumet. DIED-Yesterday noon Miss Annie KUENZEL, aged 19 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles KUENZEL, who reside at Osceola Hill, near the mine, died from typhoid fever. She suffered from typhoid fever ten years ago when she was with her parents at Eveleth, Minnesota. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at the German Lutheran church, Hubbell.
