The bridesmaid was Miss Eva SCHOOS and the best man was John LIMORAND. DEATH 1904 July 2 Saturday- Charles TIPPETT, aged 19 years, unmarried, died Thursday afternoon at the Trimountain mine. He accidentally walked into the shaft to his death. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of John TIPPETT and Emma DUNGE. He had been in America 10 months, coming here from CORNWALL in August. He has the only known relative in the area, John TIPPETT of the Isle Royale mine. Burial was at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton, on Monday. 1904 July 2- MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY BARAGA COUNTY CLERK John Arvid SALLI and Hilda Gustaava WAATAN, both of Covington NEWS ITEM 1904 July 3 Sunday- Mrs Frank TOURANGAAU left Houghton yesterday with the remains of her uncle, Richard FINNEGAN, for Chicago, Illinois, to have him buried there. MARRIAGE 1904 July 3 Sunday- Ralph C. HAYWARD of Hancock married Miss Catherine E. STICKLE, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. STICKEL of Rockland, Ontonagon County, St Anne's Catholic church, Rockland, on last Wednesday morning. The bridesmaid's were Miss Emma STICKLE and Miss FRANKLE of Ontogagon and the groomsmen were Mr SCANLON of Hancock and Tim MOORE of Rockland. The bride was born in Rockland. They will live in Hancock. DEATH 1894 July 3 Sunday- Mrs Albert ROULEAU of Winona died Friday night at St Joseph Hospital, Hancock. The funeral was at the Hancock Baptist church. Burial was at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. MARRIAGES 1904 July 3 Sunday- John P. CUMBO married Miss Lillian McMASTERS, daughter of Mr and Mrs McMASTERS, of Calumet, at the home of the bride parents, last night. 1904 July 3 Sunday- Edward GONIAN married Miss Mary PARSONS, both of the Florida mine location, last night at the Laurium Methodist church. DEATH 1904 July 3 Sunday-- Samuel HOLOPPA, aged 64 years, of the Calumet waterworks, died Friday. He is survived by a wife and two children. The funeral services will be held at the house. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. NEWS ITEM 1904 July 3 Sunday- Frank W. PHILLIPS left Calumet for an extended visit to his old home in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. He is employed at the motive department of the Calumet and Hercla Mining Company. NEWS ITEM 1904 July 3 Sunday- Frank TREVILLIAN left Lake Linden yesterday for Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he will locate. DEATH 1904 July 5 Tuesday-- Mrs Mary T. RETALLACK, aged 78 years, died at the home of her son in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Thomas BUR. Mrs. RETALLACK, a pioneer of Eagle River, Keweenaw County, where she lived for many years. She was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the daughter of Will PEARCE. She has been living with her son in Laurium for six years, when her husband, Henry died. She is survived by eight children- Mrs BURT of Laurium; Mrs John SEIGHMAN of Keweenaw county; besides two daughters and two sons in the West. The funeral will be held Saturday at the home of Mrs BURT, her daughter. She will be buried at the old Cliff Mine, Keweenaw County, next to her husband who was buried there. NEWS ITEM 1904 July 6 Wednesday- The following listed men -William JEWELL; William CURNOW; Henry CURNOW; Arthur WILLIAMS; Richard BOSANKO; Richard STEPHENS; and Frederick, all of the Mohawk mine also James OLDS of RENOVA, all left last week for an extended visit to their old homes in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. DEATH 1904 July 6 Wednesday -Peter de FILLIPPI, aged 32 years of Yellow Jacket, died Monday of a heart attack after an illness of one week. He leaves a wife and one chid in Italy. The funeral will be on Friday from the Calumet home of his mother. . Burial will be Lake View cemetery, Calumet. NEWS ITEM 1904 July 7 Thursday- Mrs Christine KOCH of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; the former Miss Christine AURICH of Houghton, is visiting her sister, Mrs Henry F. KEY of Houghton. DEATHS 1904 July 7 Thursday- John ARTHUR, aged 70 years, died at his home the Atlantic Mine on Sunday. Three sons and one daughter mourn him- John; William; Thomas and Mrs Samuel HOCKING. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of William ARTHUR and Ann TREMELLEN. The funeral was held yesterday at the Atlantic Methodist church. Burial was at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1904 July 7 Thursday- Mrs Emily PRIDEAUX, aged 58 years, died yesterday at her home in Calumet of heart disease. She was born in CAMBORNE, CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the daughter of William JEWELL. She came to the copper country in 1875 with her husband. She is survived by her husband and four children- Mrs Thomas BESWETHERIC; Will PREDIAUX and the Misses Eveline and Cora PRIDEAUX, all four are from Calumet. The funeral will be at her home Friday. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 July 7 Thursday- Mrs Jennie TRELOAR, aged 32 years, of Tamarack mine Number 5 shaft, died Monday night in the Tamarack Hospital, after an operation. She was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth WILLIAMS. She had been a resident of the copper country, the last 8 years. She is survived by her husband, Thomas and three children. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at the Tamarack Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 July 7 Thursday-- Mrs Greta HUOVRDEN, aged 70 years, of the Boston mine location, died Tuesday. She is survived by a husband and 4 children. The funeral will be the Lutheran Apostolic church, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. DEATH 1904 July 7 Thursday- Mrs Ernest WELLS, she was about 30 years old, of Calumet the last 5 years, died Wednesday at the home of her sister, Mrs Joseph BERNARD of Laurium. The funeral will take place at St Anne's French church, Calumet, on Sunday. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. She leaves a son to mourn her- Ted LA LONDE of Laurium, six sisters and one brother. MARRIAGE 1904 July 8 Friday--O. J. DEATHS 1904 July 9 Saturday- John KELLOKASK, aged 55 years, of the Allouez mine location, Keweenaw County, died Thursday night. He is survived by a wife and three children The funeral services will be Sunday afternoon at the Calumet Apostolic Lutheran church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 July 9 Saturday-Mrs David McDONALD, aged 35 years, of Laurium, died at the Calumet and Hecla hospital, Calumet early this morning after her 4th operation. She leaves a husband, Daniel and one child, aged 9 years. The funeral will take place at her home this Sunday afternoon. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery. 1904 July 9 Saturday- Mrs Mary Ann HARRIS, wife of William HARRIS, died Thursday after a short illness. She was an old resident of Lake Linden, living on a farm near the village with her husband for many years. She is survived by her husband and seven children. The funeral will be held from the home this afternoon. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGE 1904 July 9 Saturday- Mr L. P. DEATH 1904 July 13 Wednesday- Herbert GINSZKY, the Western Union lineman who was killed Monday by a fall from a pole in Calumet, was a resident of Houghton and was temporarily employed. He was only recently married. NEWS ITEMS 1904 July 13 Wednesday- Mr and Mrs Charles GEISSON and family of Buffalo, New York have arrived in Hancock to reside. He has been employed at the Michigan Smelting works. 1904 July 13 Wednesday- Mrs August WAANENEN of Pine Street, Calumet has left for an extended visit with relatives in Finland. DEATHS 1904 July 13 Wednesday- Miss Elizabeth KENNY of Calumet, has received word that her brother, Thomas KENNY, had been killed by an accident in a mine in Butte, Montana. Mr KENNY's father lives at the Franklin mine location with his children. He had 4 sisters all living in Calumet. 1904 July 13 Wednesday- Herbert STECK, aged 30 years, died at his boarding-house at Tamarack yesterday morning after an illness of three weeks of pneumonia. He had been a resident of this place for some time. His parents, Mr and Mrs Ludwig STECK reside at Copper Falls, Keweenaw County. Three brothers- Frank; Paul and Henry live at home, also surviving him are sisters- Mrs John BOLLING of Rockland, Ontonagon County; Mrs John HEPTING of Phoenix, Arizona; and Mrs Tony BRINKEN of Beacon Hill. The funeral will take place tomorrow from the home at Copper Falls. Burial was at the Copper Falls cemetery. N EWS ITEM 1904 July 13 Wednesday- Mr and Mrs A. H. CARPENTER of Mexico arrived in Houghton, yesterday for a visit with friends. She was formerly Miss Blanche HUBBELL of Houghton. DEATHS 1904 July 14 Thursday-Miss Mary Rose LEARY, aged 37 years, died at her home in Hancock yesterday morning after a year long illness. She is survived by three brothers- Daniel; Patrick and William, all residents of Hancock. The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon from St Patrick's Catholic church, Hancock. The burial will be at the old Hancock cemetery. Her parents had died only a short time ago. 1904 July 14 Thursday- Mrs Thomas FISHER, aged 69 years, died at her Calumet home yesterday morning after a one week illness. She is survived by two daughters and a son- Mrs JEFFERY of Tamarack mine and Miss Jennie FISHER and Richard FISHER, both of Calumet. Burial was from St Patrick's church, Hancock. Burial was at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. MARRIAGE 1904 July 14 Thursday- Walter COLLINS of Rockford, Illinois married Miss Flora SINCOCK of Lake Linden, at the home of Mr A. F. HAGEN Tuesday evening at his home in Lake Linden. The groom left Lake Linden a year ago and settled in Rockford, where they will live. MARRIAGE 1904 July 17 Sunday Henry NELSON of Milwaukee, Wisconsin married Miss Hilda KUKOLA of the Boston mine location recently by Rev Heideman, Pastor of the Calumet Lutheran Apostolic church. They will reside in Milwaukee. DEATH 1904 July 19 Tuesday- Mrs Elizabeth THOMAS, aged 70 years, a colored woman, died Saturday at the home of her son-in-law, Ab R. RITCHIE of Houghton, owner of the National bank barber shop, Houghton. GAGNON and Hilda LUND of Jacobville DEATHS 1904 July 19 Tuesday- Christopher DALY, aged 44 years, of Eagle River, Keweenaw County, died in the hospital yesterday morning of pneumonia. The remains were taken to Eagle River for the funeral at his home and burial at the Eagle River cemetery. 1904 July 19 Tuesday- Anton ANDREWS, aged 24 years, unmarried, died at his home in Calumet of consumption. The funeral will be held tomorrow at the home of his sister, Mrs Mary SWAIN of Hecla. He is survived by three sisters and one brother- Mrs SWAIN; Mrs James WILLIAMS; Miss Minnie ANDREWS and Edward ANDREWS. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 July 20 Wednesday- Miss Mamie DOWNEY, aged 20 years, daughter of Mr and Mrs John DOWNEY of Tamarack, died yesterday morning after an illness of six weeks. DEATHS 1904 July 22 Friday- Mrs William WAARA, of Quincy died Wednesday at the Newberry Michigan State Asylum, Newberry, Michigan. She had been an inmate only a short time. She is survived by her husband and six children. The remains arrived in Hancock Wednesday night. The funeral was held from her residence at Quincy yesterday afternoon and burial was at the Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. 1904 July 23 Saturday-James MAHAN, aged 70 years, died yesterday morning at his home in East Houghton, after a brief illness. He lived in Houghton 34 years. He was born in Ireland and came to the United States in 1860, settling in Ohio. He then moved to Ontonagon County, Michigan and stayed there 10 years, coming to Houghton afterwards. He was a blacksmith all his life. He is survived by a widow, four sons and two daughters- Michael of Salt Lake City, Utah; John; James; Joseph; Mary and Sally, all 5 of Houghton. The funeral will be from St Ignatius church, this morning. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. DEATHS 1904 July 23 Saturday- Ollie WETTER aged 21 years, of Kearsarge mine location, died yesterday of scarlet fever. 1904 July 23 Saturday-Rev Solomon KARTINIEMI aged 85 years, died at the home of his son yesterday afternoon in Laurium. He was a pioneer resident being the oldest Finnish resident of Calumet. He is survived by one son. The funeral will be Sunday afternoon from the Calumet Lutheran Apostolic church. He is survived by two sisters- Mrs William LEIBLEIN and Miss Annie GOTTSTEIN both of Houghton. The funeral will take place Thursday morning from St Ignatius Catholic Church. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1904 July 28 Thursday- Mrs Grace HOSKING, aged 72 years, for the past 22 years a resident of Hancock, and for 39 years a resident of the copper country, die yesterday morning at her Hancock home after a long illness. Her death was hastened by the two deaths of sons in the past 6 months, Walter, last December and Dr HOSKING who was killed in a mine accident in June. She came to the copper country 1865 August 10 from CORNWALL, ENGLAND, with four children to join her husband the late William, who was a miner at Eagle River, Keweenaw county. She was the daughter of William BEST and Grace BIRD in CORNWALL. Her husband died 14 years ago in Hancock. She is survived by four children- William H. of Calumet; John of Butte, Montana; Thomas of Owosso and Mrs ALMENDINGER of Corunna, Michigan. The funeral will take place from her Hancock home. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. DEATHS 1904 July 28 Thursday- The funeral services of Joseph KUVALESKI, who died Monday in the Calumet and Hecla hospital, were held yesterday morning at St Andrew's Polish church, Calumet. Burial was at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 July 28 Thursday- Mrs Charles CANTIN, died yesterday morning, at her home, after a short illness. She was born in Lake Linden and spent all her life here. A husband and one child survive her. The funeral will be tomorrow from St Joseph' church, Hancock. 1904 July 29- Friday-Mrs Kate POUVIR, aged 25 years, died yesterday of consumption at her home at the Boston mine. Her husband Victor, survives her. The funeral will be this afternoon from the Hancock Finnish Lutheran church. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. MARRIAGE 1904 July 29 Friday-Mr W. E. MATHEWSON of Minneapolis, Minnesota married Miss Gertrude DUNLOP, at the home of the bride's parents. Mr and Mrs Roger DUNLOP of Lake Linden. She is survived by three children and one sister in the Atlantic mine area. He had been an inmate of the farm for seven years. On his application for admittance he showed his name, age and born in Ireland. On all other questions he showed "I DON'T KNOW". He was buried in potters field on the poor farm. 1904 August 5 Friday- Louis FRANSICA, aged 21 years, unmarried, was killed and Thomas T. TREZONA; Mati GASPERVICH and Nicholas BADOVINAC, were badly injured in a mine accident in the No 6 shaft of the South Hecla shaft of the Calumet and Hecla mine. Mr FRANCISCA lived in Laurium. 1904 August 5 Friday-- Mrs Margaret J. COGGIN, wife of Dr. A. J. COGGIN of Hubbell, died very suddenly yesterday afternoon due to heart failure. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 August 10 Wednesday- James EADE, aged 70 years, for the past 45 years a resident of the copper country, died Monday evening at his home in Calumet of tuberculosis. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND and came to this country when about 25 years old. He resided most of the time in Calumet but spent a few years at the Bruce Mine, Ontario, Canada. He was a janitor at the Red Jacket school at the time of his death. He is survived by a wife and a sister-in-law, Mrs Mary HOSKING of Lake Linden.
