HOWES of Beacon Hill married Miss Maude May REED, at the home of Laurium, last night. Thomas GRIFFITH of Houghton was best man and Miss Eva HEBERT was the bridesmaid. SHIELDS of Lan'se Akusta KELBACK and Ida NUGA, both of Baraga town DEATH 1904 January 3 Sunday- Fred ANDERSON, a woodsman, who was brought to St Joseph's hospital, Hancock, a week ago, died yesterday morning of cancer of the stomach. The man is a stranger and as far as is known has no friends. He had money on him to pay for the funeral. The funeral was on Monday afternoon from the Swedish Lutheran church, Hancock. She was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the daughter of John HARRIS and Eliza LAUNDER. She has been a resident of the copper country for 25 years. Living in Keweenaw County till 10 years ago, when she came to Hancock. She is a widow, and her sons George and John FRANCIS live in Hancock. Another son lives in Arizona and a daughter in Canada. The last two have not kept her informed where they actually live. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon from the home. The funeral will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. DEATH 1904 January 6 Wednesday- Benedict LAUBE, aged 82 years, one of old residents of Lake Linden, a pioneer of the copper country, and the father of Mrs Nicholas REDDING of Hubbell, Mrs Nicholas PECH of Lake Linden, and the brother of the late Charles LAUBE, died yesterday at St Joseph's hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He came to the copper country over 40 years ago. For many years, with his family. He was employed in Calumet at the mines for 20 years. He then worked at the Lake Linden stamp mills. He left here about 5 years ago to live in Milwaukee. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs REDING; Mrs PECH; and 3 sons- Adolph of Colorado; Edward of Arizona; and Robert of California. The funeral will take place today at St Cecelia's church, Lake Linden. He will be buried at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. Nicholas REDING, his son-in law went to Milwaukee to make arrangements. MARRIAGE 1904 January 6 Wednesday-Albert BARTLETT married Miss Lizzie COLE, daughter of Postmaster and Mrs Charles M. COLE, at the bride's parents home in Atlantic, on New Years eve. The bride was attended by her sisters, Misses Gladys and Edith COLE, and the groom by George NANCARROW and Stanley CADWELL. The wedding march was played by Miss Maria TAMBLYN. CAMERON, last evening. The best man was Robert A. DOUGLASS, brother of the groom and the bridesmaid was Miss (no Christian name given) PRYOR. They will live in East Houghton at the home of the groom's mother, Mrs Frank A. DOUGLASS. NEWS ITEM 1904 January 7 Thursday- Charles HOSKING returned yesterday from Butte, Montana, where he had worked for several years. He will live in Hancock, with his mother, Mrs Grace HOSKING. DEATH 1904 January 7 Thursday- Mrs William ALLEN of Greenland, Ontonagon County, Michigan, died Saturday of heart disease. The funeral was held last Tuesday. 1904 January 8-MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK Jan JAKOBSON of Hancock and Hilma TARNA of Ripley DEATH 1904 January 9 Saturday-Mrs Catherine BURNS, aged 77 years, died at home in Hancock, yesterday morning. She was a pioneer resident of the copper country. She was born at Bim Church, Tipperary County, Ireland 1826 October 26. She left Ireland on 1842 May 13 and arrived in New Brunswick, Canada on December 2 of that year. She went later to Boston, Massachussetts and stayed there three years. She left there in 1847 for Shullsburg, Wisconsin and with her first husband in 1851 went to the Quincy mine. Two years later they went to Ontonagon, where Mr RYAN died. She married Patrick BURNS of Detroit in 1866. They lived in Calumet till 10 years ago, when she moved to Hancock to live with her son. She leaves her son Thomas D. RYAN. Mr BURNS died in Leadville several years ago. The funeral will be held at St Patrick's church, Hancock on Monday morning. DEATHS 1904 January 10 Sunday- Mrs Susan DeGRAFF, wife of C. H. DeGRAFF .aged 73 years, died yesterday at her home in Houghton of Brights disease. She was a resident of Houghton since 1858. She was born at CAMBORNE, CORNWALL, ENGLAND 1830 November 11, the daughter of John CUNDY. She came to America in 1852 and lived at Ontonagon County, Michigan for a time and than went to Vermont for a few years. She came back to Houghton in 1858. She is survived by 5 children- Mrs H. I. WRIGHT of Marinette, Michigan; Mrs L. C. DeLAND of Appleton; Mrs Josiah PENBERTHY of Calumet; Charles NANCARROW of Hubbell and James S. NANCARROW of Houghton. The funeral will take place Tuesday from Trinity church, Houghton and burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton., 1904 January 12 Tuesday- Celestine GAUTHIER, aged 73 years, father of Joseph and August GAUTHIER, died at his home in West Hancock, of cancer of the stomach. He lived in Hancock coming here from Canada to make his home with his sons in Hancock. The funeral will take place tomorrow from S t Joseph's church, Hancock. Burial will be a Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. 1904 January 12 Tuesday- The remains of Victor WILLIAMSON, who died in Dollar Bay on Sunday of Bright's disease, were buried at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock, yesterday afternoon. MARRIAGE 1904 January 12 Tuesday- Almer C. ROUSSEAU of Calumet married Miss Rachel VAUGHAN of Sault St Marie, Michigan, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr and Mrs James VAUGHAN, on last Wednesday evening. The couple were attended by the bride's sister, Miss Vera VAUGHAN and the best man was John K. McDONALD. They will live in Calumet where the groom in Chief Inspector for the telephone company. DEATH 1904 January 12 Tuesday- Mrs Francis WARD, aged 53 years, died after a lingering illness. She was born at Bere Alson, Devonshire, England. She leaves a husband, three daughters and two sons to mourn her death. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at Christ Church, Calumet and burial was at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGE 1904 January 12 Tuesday- Chon TIE, an ordinary Chinese laundryman married Miss Bessie JOHNSON, a white woman, both of Calumet, in Justice BRAND's court in Calumet yesterday afternoon. Justice BRAND recovering from his surprise, at the couple, brought County Sheriff WILLS forth as the bridesmaid and Fred W. STOYLE was the groomsman. They will live in Calumet. The groom is a prosperous laundryman. DEATH 1904 January 13 Wednesday-John BELL, aged 18 years, died Monday at the home of John ROWE of Laurium. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGE 1904 January 13 Wednesday- Mr F. She has been a resident of Lake Linden the past 27 years. She is survived by her husband and 5 children- the daughters are Eglantine of Oskar; Mary of Chassell; Adeline and Cecil and the son Ovila lives at Grosse Point. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at St Joseph's church, Lake Linden. 1904 January 16 Saturday- The funeral of the late Mrs John ROEHM, aged 25 years, of Laurium, will be held this morning with services at Sacred Heart Catholic church, Calumet, and burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. She is survived by her husband, mother and three children. 1904 January 17 Sunday- Mrs Laura ROSEWARNE, aged 29 years, wife of A.E. ROSEWARNE, of Lake Linden Avenue, Calumet, died Friday evening after an illness of several weeks. She is survived by her husband and one child. She will be buried Friday at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1904 January 17 Sunday- John DEKKALA, aged 28 years, died at his Calumet home after an illness of six weeks due to consumption. LIEBLEIN, Sr, aged 72 years, died at his home in Hancock after an illness of two years. He was born 1832 August 19 in Bavaria, Germany. He was a pioneer resident of the copper country for 45 years and of Hancock the last 25 years. He came to America as a child and with his parents and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. He was an agent of a mine in Ontonagon county, having expert experience as a bookkeeper. He had been retired for a number of years. He leaves a wife, and 8 children- George; William; Charles G.; Edward M.; Albert M.; Miss Emma LIEBLEIN; Mrs Lorenzo BREE; and Mrs Webster DOCK. The funeral will be tomorrow from his home and burial will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. 1904 January 20 Wednesday- August ABRAHAMSON, aged 65 years, of Allouez, Keweenaw County, died Monday of consumption. He leaves a wife and seven children. The funeral will be held today. 1904 January 20 Wednesday- Gideon VERSAILLE, aged 64 years, died at his home in Lake Linden. He came to Lake Linden 29 years ago when only an Indian family lived here. He is survived by the following children- Mrs Joseph ROCK of Central mine; Mrs Louis BEAUCHAMP of Mason; William; Azeari; Phillip; Fred; and Jermich, Jr. The funeral will be held this morning from St Joseph's church, Lake Linden and the burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. DEATHS 1904 January 21 Thursday- Joseph FORDON, a middle aged man and John SCHALLE, a single man, both timbermen were instantly killed by falling rock at the North Tamarack mine, yesterday morning. FORDON is survived by a wife and three children. SCHALLE has relatives in this vicinity. The funerals will be Sunday morning, with burials at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 January 21 Thursday-Ida, the wife of William RUNSTELLA died yesterday at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. PROBATE MATTER 1904 January 22 Friday- In the matter of the estate of Delia CORBEILLE, deceased, Herbert CORBEILLE, her husband, asked the probate court to appoint him the administrator of the estate. NEWS ITEM 1904 January 22 Friday- Captain Joseph TONKIN and family left Calumet yesterday morning for Detroit, Michigan, where they will make their home. They are mutual friends of the bride and groom. They will reside in Houghton. DEATHS 1904 January 26- Tuesday- Mrs Catherine SENGLAUB, aged 70 years, died yesterday morning at her Lake Linden home, after a short illness. She has lived in Lake Linden since 1885. Eight children survive her- Mrs George WESTON of Keweenaw County; Mrs Henry POLLY of Chelsea. Wisconsin; Edward; John: Chris; Frank; Henry; John and Caspar SENGLAUB of Montana. The funeral will be held at the Lake Linden Methodists church this afternoon. Burial will be at the Lake Linden Protestant cemetery. 1904 January 26 Tuesday- Joseph BREWER, Jr, aged 35 years, died yesterday morning at his Calumet home of dropsy. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of William BREWER and Jane CULLIS. James and William, his brothers came from Ishpeming, Marquette County to attend the funeral, tomorrow. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 January 26 Tuesday-Carl AHO, aged 20 years, died at his home in Calumet on Saturday of consumption. They will relocate there. DEATHS 1904 January 30 Saturday- Thomas DANIELLS, died Thursday night at his home in Calumet, of asthma and bronchial troubles. He is survived by two sons, Thomas of Houghton and William of the iron country. His wife Emily, aged 65 years, died last November. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. The funeral was yesterday from his home and the burial was at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 January 30 Saturday-Mrs Mary NARA, aged 70 years, died yesterday morning at her home in Laurium of consumption. She is survived by her husband and two children- Mrs C. HEUSA and Edward NARA. The funeral will be held today from the Finnish Apostolic church, Calumet and burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet . 1904 January 30 Saturday- The funeral of the late Mrs Kate COPPO, who died Wednesday at her home in Calumet, will be held tomorrow at the Italian church, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. She is survived by two children. 1904 January 30 Saturday- The death of Edward FABIAN of Woodside occurred Thursday at the home of his niece, Mrs W. S. PEARCE at Hancock. He was 68 years old and had resided on the lake since 1851, making his home with his sister, Mrs Marie WILLIAMS, at the Hancock Smelting works ., at the greater portion of the time. BOSSON, who died Friday afternoon at home in Calumet, will be taken to Reading, Massachussetts, this afternoon by Mr BOSSON and daughter, Amy. She will be buried there. She was born 1860 August 20 at Charlestown, Massachussetts. She had made her home in Calumet since July 1890, when Mr BOSSON accepted the superintendancy of the electric light plant of he Calumet and Hecla mine. 1904 January 31 Sunday- Napoleon FONTAINE of Hubbell, died yesterday morning ay his home, of cancer of the stomach. He came to Calumet as a young man and moved to Hubbell where he lived many years. He is survived by a wife and three children. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at St Cecelia's church at Hubbell. 1904 February 2- Tuesday- Nicholas REIS, aged 65 years, died at his home in Hurontown Sunday of a complication of diseases. He was born in Weinberg, Germany and was one year old when his parents came to America, locating in Cleveland,. He came to Eagle River, Keweenaw County as a young man and shortly moved to Hurontown till his death. He is survived by his wife and nine children- Mrs James NYERS and Misses Mayme and Edith REIS, all of Denver, Colorado; Mrs H. J. MAJOR of Houghton; Mrs Michael LYNCH of Superior, Wisconsin; Miss Elizabeth a student at Ypsilanti, Michigan; Miss Mattie; Frank and Nicholas all of Hurontown. The funeral will be held Thursday at his home. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1904 February 3 Wednesday- Mrs Arthur LAMOTHE, died early Monday at her Lake Linden home of consumption. She is survived by her husband and two children. The funeral will be held this morning from St Joseph's church, Lake Linden. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. N EWS ITEM 1904 February 3 Wednesday- Miss Mary FILLION of Laurium, will leave today for Seattle, Washington, where she will make her future home. DEATHS 1904 February 4 Thursday- Franz HOHNSTRUM, aged 17 years, son of Bernard HOHNSTRUM of Laurium, died Tuesday evening after a lingering illness. The funeral will be held tomorrow at the Calumet Finnish Lutheran church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 February 4 Thursday- Joseph MAATA, aged 38 years, died yesterday at his home in the Wolverine location,. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn him. The funeral will be held from the home, tomorrow morning. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 February 4 Thursday- Tony MASNADO of Calumet, a stone mason at the Calumet and Hecla stamp mill at Lake Linden, died yesterday morning at the mill. He was killed instantly while attempting to correct a bolt that was loose and two beams crushed him to his death. A wife and six children survive him, the oldest ten years old.; The family is living in the old country. MARRIAGE 1904 February 4- Thursday-- Henry DETAVENLER wed Miss Margaret CLISH of Marquette, Marquette County, Michigan, in the Baltic fire hall., last night. DEATH 1904 February 5 Friday-Joel LEVINE, aged 61 years, died Wednesday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs Herman PIMSTEIN of West Houghton. He was born in Germany and had resided in America for 35 years. Most of that time he lived in Chicago, Illinois. A year and a half ago he came to Houghton to live with his daughter. He died of a heart condition brought on by a long illness of asthma. He is survived by his wife and two daughters- Mrs PIMSTEIN and Mrs SYMON of Hammond, Indiana .The funeral will take place today at the Jewish cemetery in Calumet. MARRIAGES 1904 February 5 Friday- John K. ZUNICH married Miss Katie STRUTZEL, at St Joseph's Austrian church, Calumet yesterday morning. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs George STRUTZEL of Red Jacket. 1904 February 5 Friday- Frank SCHULTE of Calumet married Miss Mary STOHL of Calumet, Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic church, Calumet. The bride was supported by Miss Estella EDWARDS and the groom by John SCHULTE, a brother of the groom. DEATHS 1904 February 6 Saturday--John J. WEBB, aged 59 years, for the past 30 years a resident of Hancock, died yesterday morning at his East Hancock home of paralysis. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of John WEBB; he came to America at the age of 16 years and landed at the copper country. He was one of the oldest residents of Hancock. He is survived by his wife and three children- Mrs Louis E. YOUNGS of Golden, Colorado; Mrs John M. WAGNER of Trimountain; and Charles E. WEBB of Houghton. Also a sister, Miss Ellen WEBB of Trimountain. The funeral will be this afternoon from the Hancock Congregational church and burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1904 February 6 Saturday- Mrs Esther TOUPIN aged 82 years, of Laurium, died Thursday. She is survived by a husband and 9 children, one of them is Alfred of Montreal, Canada who came here for the funeral., other children are Mrs Joseph MATTHEWS of Laurium; Mrs August RICHARD of Wolverine mine; Mrs Mary RICHARDS of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Mrs Joseph BEAUCHAMP of Hancock; Mrs Mary GARDETTO of Seattle, Washington; and Messrs Ronald of Calumet; Arthur P. of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota and Lewis of Hubbell. DEATH 1904 February 12 Friday-Charles WILLIAMS, a miner employed at the Phoenix mine, Keweenaw County, aged 49 years and single, died yesterday morning by falling from the skip to the bottom of the mine.
