She is survived by a husband and two children. The funeral will take place tomorrow from St Ignatius Catholic Church, Houghton. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. She was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Florence DRISCOLL. She is survived by her parents and 4 brothers and sisters, all residents of Houghton. 1903 November 3 Tuesday- Christopher HENDRA, aged 65 years, one of the pioneer residents of Calumet died at his home at Tamarack location Sunday, of heart problems. He was born in CAMBORNE, CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of Christopher HENDRA and Mother is unknown. He came to America during the Civil War, and came to Hancock, than Calumet where he stayed at the Tamarack mine. He leaves a wife and a son James, at Tamarack. and a son Ralph at CAMBORNE. and a sister, Mrs James H. GRIBBLE at Calumet. The funeral will be today at the Salvation Amy barracks, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. THE DAILY MINING GAZETTE NEWSPAPER, HOUGHTON, MICHIGAN contd DEATH 1903 November 3 Tuesday- Thomas BERRYMAN, aged 55 years, died at his Calumet home Sunday morning from heart trouble. He was well known among the CORNISH people in Calumet. He was born in CHURCHTOWN ZENNOR, CORNWALL; ENGLAND, and came to the copper country 37 years ago. With the exception of two years spent at the Rhode Island coal mine, he spent the rest of his time at Calumet. He spent 34 years working at the Calumet and Hecla mine, Calumet. He leaves a wife and four children-Thomas; Joseph and Mrs Edward of HANCOCK. The funeral will take place on Wednesday at the Calumet Congregational church, and burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1903 Nov 3- MARRIAGE LICENSES ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK Ernest L. BOGUE, cashier at the Greenland Bank, Ontonagon County married Mrs Margaret QUANN yesterday morning at the Greenland Catholic church. The bride was attended by Miss Jennie CURRY of Calumet and the groom by Dr F J. LARNARD. They will live in Greenland. 1903 November 4 Wednesday- Richard CARTER of Gay married Miss Helena DOMOSKY yesterday At St Anthony's church, Calumet. The groom works at the Mohawk mine at Gay where they will make their home. 1903 November 4 Wednesday- John EDDY of Calumet married Miss Freda BONDS of Boston mine location, Monday evening at the home of the bride's parents. Albert BONDS, a brother of the groom, was the best man and the maid of honor was Carrie EDDY, sister of the bride. They will make their future home at the Boston mine location. DEATH 1903 November 4 Wednesday- John BREWER, aged 48 years and six months, died at his home on 5th Street, Calumet, from tuberculosis. He was married two years ago and leaves a wife and a son to mourn him. He came to Calumet in the 1880's from CORNWALL, ENGLA ND, where he was born. Her was the son of John BREWER. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon at the Salvation Army Barracks. The burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1903 Nov 5-MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK George B. DUNLOP and Miss Grace ELLIOTT of Alston DEATH 1903 November 5 Thursday- Thomas GEORGE of Calumet, who went to LeRoy, Indiana to attend the funeral of his father Mine Captain Thomas GEORGE, aged 80 years, arrived home on Wednesday. The late Captain GEORGE was a resident of the copper country. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. He came to America l851 and landed in the copper country. He was a mining captain at the Cliff mine to 1870. He then moved to a farm at Lake County, Indiana. Two sons live in Calumet, Thomas and John, he also leaves 4 daughters, and one brother Captain Harry GEORGE of Lake Linden. MARRIAGES 1903 November 5 Thursday- Ward Brainard SMITH of Orvisburg, Mississippi married Miss Blanche L. PRYOR of Houghton, last evening in Trinity Episcopal church, Houghton. The best man was Frank VAN ORDEN and the maid of honor was Miss Estelle PRYOR, the sister of the bride. The groom is a graduate of the Michigan College of Mines, Houghton. They will live in Orvisburg where the groom works with his father in the lumbering business. MARRIAGE 1903 November 6 Friday- Frank ELLING WOOD of Detroit, Michigan married Miss Lillian HELMERT of Houghton in Hancock on last Monday. 1903 Nov 6-MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK Peter GLANDROME and Tiorenza DERETTO of Laurium DEATHS 1903 November 6 Friday- Mr and Mrs Dennis HOLLAND of South Lake Linden received a telegram yesterday from Butte City, Montana , announcing the death of their son, Dennis, aged 22 years, on Wednesday night. He left for Montana a year ago. He is survived by his parents, three brothers- Michael, John and Jerry and three sisters, one who lives with her parents. Burial will be at Butte. 1903 November 6 Friday- James JAMES, aged 72 years, died at his home in Laurium, last Wednesday evening. He was an old resident of Calumet, having worked for the Calumet and Hecla Mining company, as a miner, for 30 years. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of William JAMES. He came to America at an early age and is survived by his wife, and 11 children. The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon at the Laurium Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGE 1903 November 6 Friday- Ernest G.OLIVER married Miss Effie CHAPMAN at noon yesterday at the home of the bride's parents, Mr and Mrs Isaac CHAPMAN of Calumet .They will live in Laurium. DEATHS 1903 November 6 Friday- Mrs Ann WATSON aged 86 years, died yesterday morning at the home of Mrs NELSON who lives on the old Torch Road. Mrs WATSOM came to Calumet last June from Bruce mines, Ontario, Canada where she had resided since leaving her native land across the water. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs John CHAPMAN of the Bruce Mines; and two sons Jervis and William of Calumet. The funeral will take place at the residence on Saturday. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1903 November 6 Friday- John LINK, a farmer residing near the old Pacific Mine near the Atlantic mine suffered a horrible death Wednesday evening. He was blown up while trying to remove stumps from his farm with dynamite. He has been a resident of Houghton County more than 40 years. He is survived by a wife, only. The funeral will be held at the home this afternoon and burial at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1903 November 7 Saturday- Seven miners were killed at the Kearsearge gold mine, Virginia City, Montana. The cause is unknown. Among those killed are Superintendent R.B. TURNER ; George ALLEN, stationary engineer; and miners - James POWERS; Edward LAHREDY; William FLEMING and Robert DONNELLY. 1903 November 7 Saturday- Michael KLOBUCHER, aged 33 years, married, resident of Red Jacket, died at the Tamarack hospital yesterday from injuries received the evening before while working underground at the North Tamarack mine. He leaves a wife and one child to mourn him. The funeral will take place Sunday. 1903 November 7 Saturday- Gerhardt FINNEY, aged 45 years, died yesterday morning at his home in Lake Linden from dropsy. He had been a resident of Lake Linden for many years, having worked at the Calumet and Hecla stamp mills there. He is survived by a widow and nine children. The funeral will be held on Sunday from the Holy Rosary church, Lake Linden. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. DEATHS 1903 November 8 Sunday-Mrs Della CORBEILLE, wife of Henry CORBEILLE, died yesterday morning at her home in Houghton of dropsy. She is survived by her husband and three sons- Louis; Fred and Albert who reside in Houghton and a brother and sister who live at the Atlantic mine location. The funeral will take place at the home tomorrow morning. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1903 November 8 Sunday- Mary OLSON, aged 46 years, wife of William OLSON, of Swedetown, died yesterday morning after suffering 3 years with cancer. She leaves her husband and six children. The funeral will be held this afternoon from the Swedish Lutheran church in Hancock. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. 1903 Nov 8-MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK Alfred BACKMAN and Annie JOHNSON of Dollar Bay MARRIAGE 1903 November 8 Sunday-William J. PENALUNA married Mildred LIDDICOAT at the Trimountain Methodist church last evening. The bride was attended as maid of honor by Miss Jenny E. WHITE and the bridesmaids were Lillian SLEEP and Nellie WILLIAMS. Little Perlie MARTIN acted as flower girl and Arthur WILLIAMS as ring bearer. The groom was supported by William BRAY; William CRUSE and Ernest PENALUNA, the later was the brother to the groom. She was born in Germany and came to Wisconsin, living there till 1864 at which time she came to Calumet and lived there since. She was married in 1866 and leaves a husband and seven children, they are-George; and Herman of Laurium; John of Red Jacket; Henry of Atlantic; Misses Mary and Kate BIRK of Marquette, Marquette County; and Mrs William SEAL of Laurium. The funeral will take place Wednesday from the Laurium Methodist church and burial at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGES 1903 November 10 Tuesday-Thomas PENBERTHY of Calumet married Miss Florence Stephens, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr and Mrs Thomas STEPHENS of North Kearsarge mine location on Saturday evening. Miss Jane PHILLIPS of Kearsarge was the bridesmaid and the best man was Andrew PENBERTHY, a brother of the groom. They will live in Laurium. 1903 November 10 Tuesday- David WILSON married Miss Margaret HOYT of Lake Linden last week. They will live in Lake Linden where the groom is a well-known young man DEATH 1903 November 10 Tuesday- Dominick CERUTTI, aged 26 years died at his home in Calumet of heart failure, last night. His father Antonio CERUTTI was killed in a mine accident a month ago. He leaves a wife and a child of two months. NEWS ITEM 1903 Nov 10 Tuesday- Thomas H. EDDY has been appointed postmaster at Elm River to replace William UREN who resigned. MARRIAGE 1903 November 11 Wednesday-Dolphis REMILLARD married Miss Marie BEAUDOIN both of Lake Linden, at St Joseph's church, Lake Linden yesterday. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Napoleon BEAUDOIN of Lake Linden. They will live in Lake Linden. DEATH 1903 November 13 Friday- The funeral of the late Mrs Eleanor Deauville GARDNER will take place Saturday afternoon at the First Congregational church, Calumet. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of William CHAMPION and Ann HOLMAN. He is survived by his wife, Jane and three sons and a daughter- William at Isle Royale; James of Ripley and Joseph in CORNWALL, and also Mrs Amelia TREGLOWN of Dollar Bay. DANIEL, died at her Calumet home yesterday morning after 10 years of suffering. She was born in REDRUTH, CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the daughter of Richard ROBERTS. She came to the copper country in 1874 settling first in Calumet and than many years in Norway, Michigan. Ten years ago she came back to Calumet, to stay till her death. She is survived by a husband and two sons- Thomas DANIEL who works in the news office of this newspaper; William H. DANIEL of Detroit, Michigan. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon at the home. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery, Calumet. 1903 November 17 Tuesday- Isaac SEEDEN, aged 44 years, employed at the Osceola mine, was killed accidentally while replacing rollers in the shaft at No 6 shaft Sunday night. He leaves a wife and three children and lived at the Osceola mine location. The funeral will take place today from his home. 1903 November 17 Tuesday- Eugene MAJOR, aged 27 years, fell from the tender of the railroad engine and was killed Sunday night on the Copper Range train leaving Houghton. He was born at Atlantic and raised in Houghton. He is survived by his mother, Mrs Ann MAJOR of Spokane, Washington; two sisters-Mrs Joseph RASHLEIGH of Houghton; Miss Lucy MAJOR of Great Falls, Montana and two brothers- Frank and Harry MAJOR in Houghton. The funeral will be at Grace Methodist church on Thursday. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1903 November17 Tuesday-Mary GITZEN, aged 34 years, wife of Peter of the Hecla location, died Sunday after a 2 years illness. DEATHS 1903 November 19 Thursday- The funeral of the late John STAPPART was held yesterday morning at St Joseph's church. Burial was at the old Catholic cemetery. 1903 November21 Saturday- Mr A. G. CARLSON died yesterday at his home in Trimountain. His former home was in Ishpeming, Marquette County, Michigan and his remains will be shipped there for burial. He is survived by his wife, mother, three sisters and four sisters. (sic) 1903 November 22 Sunday- Mrs William REED, aged 29 years, of Centennial Heights, Calumet, died at the Tamarack hospital yesterday morning of blood poisoning. She leaves a husband and four children. The family moved from Ishpeming, Marquette County to Calumet over a year ago. Mrs REED was the daughter of Mrs Andrew EDD of Tamarack and the funeral will take place from the EDDY home on Monday. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of John HICKS and Susan RICHARDS. He came to Calumet 25 years ago. He is survived by two sons and two daughters. He is survived by his father, who lives south of Houghton; and a brother, August of Hancock. 1903 December 1 Tuesday- Fred WIND, aged 20 years, died at his home in Calumet yesterday of tuberculosis. The funeral will take place Wednesday. NEWS ITEM 1903 December 1 Tuesday- Tom CORNISH of Ishpeming, Marquette County arrived in Calumet last week to accept a position at the Kearsarge mine. WAARA of Trimountain DEATHS 1903 December 4 Friday- Emil SCHMEISSER, for many years an employee of the mechanical department of the Hecla branch of the Calumet and Hecla mining company, died yesterday at his home in Rambaultown. He was born in Germany 1851 February 4. He leaves a wife and two children to mourn him. 1903 December 8 Tuesday- Ovila BASIGOUR, aged about 22 years, single, died at St Joseph's hospital, Hancock, Sunday evening after a three days illness. He has an uncle living in Lake Linden. The funeral will take place this morning at the home of August GAUTHIER, with services at St Joseph's church, Hancock. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. 1903 December 9 Wednesday-Henry WILSON, aged 67 years, died at Trimountain yesterday due to old age. The remains were brought to Calumet last night. He leaves a son and daughter both of Calumet. NEWS ITEM 1903 December 12 Saturday- Thomas STANTON has resigned his position at the Calumet and Hecla stamp mill, Lake Linden and will leave Lake Linden next week for Bisbee, Arizona. He is to take a position at the Bisbee mining camp and will be employed at the Calumet and Arizona company. DEATHS 1903 December 13 Sunday- The remains of the late Andrew SIMMONS, who died last Thursday at Painesdale, and will be buried today at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. The remains were taken to the home of his daughter at Laurium and the funeral was at Sacred Heart church, Calumet. 1903 December 13 Sunday- Mrs Debbie DOWNEY, aged 39 years, died yesterday morning at her Dollar Bay home. She is survived by her husband and six children. She had lived at Dollar Bay ever since the smelters were established there. The funeral will be held at St Francis church, Dollar Bay. Burial will be at Hancock old Catholic cemetery. 1903 December 13 Sunday- Mrs Louis PELLERA, aged 56 years, one of the pioneer residents of Tamarack City, died yesterday morning at her home. She came to Tamarack City several years ago. She is survived by her husband and six children, 4 sons and two daughters all of whom live at Tamarack city. The funeral will be held Monday morning at St Cecelia's church, Lake Linden. Burial will be at Mount Calvary, Lake Linden. 1903 December 13 Sunday-Alex NICHOLS, aged 46 years, one of the owners of the Michigan House hotel, Houghton, died at his hotel yesterday morning of asthma. and a cold. He lived in Houghton 4 years, coming here from Nebraska. He is survived by his wife, Margaret and a son, Allie. The funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon, when his brother, Job, will arrive from Buffalo, New York. The funeral was yesterday afternoon at the hotel. Burial was at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1903 December13 Sunday- The remains of Mrs John KING, who died Thursday night, were taken to Marquette, Marquette County, Michigan for burial. They were accompanied by Mr and Mrs John HELMERT. NEWS ITEM 1913 December 1 5-Tuesday- Burt MANN left Painesdale last Saturday for CORNWALL, ENGLAND to go to his old home and stay there. He formerly resided at Ishpeming, Marquette County, Michigan but worked the last two months at the Champion mine, Painesdale. DEATH 1903 December 16 Wednesday- Walter HOSKING, aged 30 years, son of Mrs Grace HOSKING of West Hancock, died at his home yesterday morning. He had been employed for a year as a bartender for Joseoh NEHER after his return from the West a year ago. NEWS ITEM 1903 December 18 Friday- Peter SCHMALZ has arrived in Calumet from Finland and has taken a position in the Calumet Drug Store. VIVIAN at Calumet, last night. The maid of honor was Miss Fanny ROBERTS of Pontiac, Michigan and the best man was Dr LARNED of the Adventure mine. They will make their home in Philadelphia. DEATH 1903 December22 Tuesday- Gus ADAMSON, aged 22 years, of the Wolverine mine location, died Saturday night of tuberculosis. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the Wolverine mine Finnish church. Burial was at the Lake View cemetery, Calumet. They will live in Lake Linden. DEATHS 1903 December 23 Wednesday- The funerals of Charles and Axel PETERSON, who met their deaths last Saturday in the Isle Royale fire disaster, will take place this afternoon at their home in Hurontown. The burials will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. In the same disaster, the remains of John GERZOVITCH, the young drill boy, who died in the same fire, were taken to Calumet to the Austrian church for his funeral this afternoon. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGE 1903 December 24 Thursday- John HARBOUR married Mrs Louise ROWE, at the residence of Mr and Mrs James JAMES, Lake Linden, last evening. The bride had lived in Lake Linden for one year, prior to living at Negaunee, Marquette County, Michigan where she had been a bookkeeper for a number of years. The groom has spent many years working at the Calumet and Hecla stamp mills at Lake Linden. They will live in Lake Linden. DEATHS 1903 December24 Thursday- Miss Mary LEACH (LEECH), aged 35 years, died yesterday at the home of her brother-in-law, Captain Joseph POLLARD of Laurium. She had been sick for a long time. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at the Laurium Methodist church. Burial will be at the Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1903 December 25 Friday-Alexander HOULE, aged 78 years, of L'Anse, Baraga County, Michigan, who had recently been making his home with his daughter, Mrs Jerry HOULE, in Hancock, died suddenly Wednesday night at his daughter's home. He had a heart attack. He leaves his daughter and another her daughter, Mrs Paul BEAUDIN of Winona. The remains will be taken to L'Anse for burial. 1903 December 25 Friday- Dennis SULLIVAN, who was called to Dollar Bay by the death of his sister, Mrs Jerry DOWNEY, left Wednesday for his home in Butte, Montana. Her funeral was one of the largest in attendance in Dollar Bay for a number of years. She died last Friday evening at her home in Osceola of pneumonia. The funeral was Monday morning at Sacred Heart church, Calumet. The funeral will take place at the Calumet Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. He leaves a number of relatives. 1903 December 29 Tuesday - Albert FINLEY, Sr, aged 69 years, died yesterday morning at St Joseph's hospital, Hancock, of pneumonia, indirectly caused by being struck by a car on Christmas eve. He had been a resident of Hancock for 20 years, working as a stone mason at the Quincy mine. He was born in Ireland and a widower, leaves 10 children. They are Arthur; Mrs John NICHOLSON; Mrs Hector McASKILL; and Alex; all live in Hancock. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at his home. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1903 December 29 Tuesday- Mrs Annie DENNIS, aged 72 years, wife of James, died at her Hancock home, after being ill for 4 years. She was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the daughter of James SANDOW and Jane ROBERTS. She came to Hancock 37 years ago with her husband and lived here ever since. She leaves her husband and one sister, Mrs Thomas KENDALL of the Republic mine. The funeral will take place this afternoon at the Hancock Methodist church. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1903 December 31 Thursday- Mrs Annie RICHARDS, aged 41 years, wife of Thomas RICHARDS of Laurium, died last Tuesday morning. The funeral will be held this afternoon at the Calumet Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. She was born in PRASE, CORNWALL, ENGLAND. She leaves her husband and a two-year-old child. She resided in the copper country 5 years before her death.
