July 1 Wednesday- Walter McVIKKER married Miss Barto McKENZIE of Houghton, at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Jane McKENZIE of Houghton, yesterday afternoon. They will live in Houghton. Deaths July 1 Wednesday- Ed COULCK, aged 61 years, was taken sick at his home in Trimountain and was moved to the Houghton County Poor Farm yesterday, where he died two hours later. The funeral will be tomorrow at the poor farm. July 1 Wednesday- The funeral of the late John KAISER, who was killed by falling under a train at Gay last Sunday evening, will take place Friday. A son, John, of Groat Falls, Montana wired he is coming at once. Services will be at Sacred Heart church and burial at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. Marriage July 1 Wednesday-Gus DEMO married Miss Dera SCHOTTLE at Palace Hall, Dollar Bay last night. They will live in Dollar BAY. Death July 3 Friday-Mrs. Rosalie LePAGE, aged 37 years, died suddenly yesterday from heart failure at her home in Lake Linden. She is survived by a husband and six small children. The funeral will be held tomorrow from St Joseph's Catholic church, Lake Linden. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. Marriages July 3 Friday- The many friends of James BENNETT of Sidnaw received cards Tuesday stating his marriage to Katherine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas KITCHENER, at Ishpeming, Marquette County, Michigan, on June 30. They will live in Sidnaw. July 3 Friday- Cards were received in Houghton yesterday announcing the marriage of Robert R. BROOKS to Miss Sophia MARTIN, daughter of John B. MARTIN of Ripley. The marriage took place in Chicago, Illinois on June 30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. EATON of Chicago,, last Thursday. They will live in Houghton. Death July 4 Saturday- Sylvio GRUBBLE, an Italian miner at the Baltic mine, died yesterday as a result received two weeks ago in a mine accident. A heavy machine fell on him causing his death. Marriage July 5 Sunday- Cards have been received at this newspaper, announcing the marriage on Tuesday June 30 at Flint, Michigan of Dr Elmer Daley GARDNER and Miss Lois Merrille SKINNER, both of Hancock. The marriage was at the bride's parents home, Mr. and Mrs. A. L SKINNER in Burton, Michigan near Flint .. They will live in Hancock. Death July 5 Sunday- Mrs. Lucas FULLER, aged 67 years, yesterday morning at her home in Lake Linden from bronchial trouble. She was born in Germany and came to this country many years ago, being one of the first pioneers of the copper country to locate in Lake Linden. She is survived by a husband, two daughters- Miss Bertha of Lake Linden and Mrs. Fred ROF of Duluth, Minnesota and one son-Lucas FULLER of South Lake Linden. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at the Holy Rosary church, Lake Linden and the burial at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. Marriages July 4 Sunday- Charles LEIBLEIN of Calumet married Miss Rose Catherine THOMAS, of Calumet, yesterday morning at the Calumet home of Miss COLLINS, who was the bridesmaid. They evaded all their friends to have a quiet wedding and took the train on their honeymoon as soon as the ceremony was over. They will live in Calumet. Marriage July 10 - John DRISCOL, married Miss Cora BUCK, both are of Greenland ,Ontonagon County, at Calumet, Houghton County on Tuesday. They will live in Greenland. Deaths July 11 Saturday- Camille GOULETTE, JR, the 18 year old, son of Camille GOULETTE of Laurium, died of pneumonia early yesterday morning at his Laurium home. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at St Ann's church, Calumet. July 12 Sunday- Mrs. Hanna DYSON, aged 97 years, of Marquette, Marquette County, Michigan died last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah CUNDY of East Houghton. The remains will be taken to Marquette this afternoon for burial. July 12 Sunday- George TOWNSEND, aged 67 years, for many years a resident of Menard, died yesterday morning after a lengthy illness., He was one of the pioneer residents of this northern country, He survived by a wife and six children, all reside in Menard. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, and the services will be held under the auspices of the SONS of ST GEORGE at the Pewabic Methodist church.. July 12 Sunday-The funeral of the late Mrs. Angelina CONSTENTINO, whose death occurred at the Calumet hospital, last Thursday, took place yesterday morning at St Ann's French church, Calumet. Burial was at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Death July 14 Tuesday- Fred VOSS, of Hancock, aged 75 years, died at St Joseph's hospital, Hancock Sunday evening after several weeks of illness. He is survived by three sons and two daughters. The funeral will take place Wednesday, with services at St Joseph's church, Hancock. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. Marriages July 14 Tuesday- William WILLIAMS married Miss Bertha NICHOLS, both of Quincy mine, on Saturday evening, by Rev James Pascoe of the Pewabic Methodist church. Marriage July 14 Tuesday- Karl ARMINEN, one of the Corps of Suomi College, Hancock married Miss Sofia RISTELL, formerly private secretary to J. H. RASBERG, The marriage was performed by Rev NIKANDER of Hancock in the presence of only immediate relatives. Due to the death of the bride's father, it was a quiet wedding. Deaths July 14 Tuesday- William SCHULLMANN, a timber man employed at, the Hecla branch of the Calumet and Hecla mine, was accidentally killed while at work yesterday. A piece of hanging rock fell down on him. He leaves a wife and family to mourn his death. The funeral was held yesterday at the German Reformed church, Calumet. Burial was at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. July 14 Tuesday-Philip POISANT, aged 49 years, an employee of the Tamarack-Osceola boiler house, died suddenly yesterday morning at his home in South Lake Linden. He died of heart failure two hours after he became ill. He had worked at the Osceola Tamarack the last 7 years. For 16 years he lived in Lake Linden and was a teamster. A widow and 8 children survive him. Their 4 sons-Henry in Wisconsin and 4 daughters- Misses Eva, Albina, Jennie and Genieve, all the other 7 children, except Henry, live in South Lake Linden. Funeral will be Thursday morning, with burial at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. News Item July 15 Wednesday-Mr. and Mrs. Peter HOLMAN, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their home in East Hancock, last night. The children who attended are- Mrs. Charles RIDPATH of New York; John and Will HOLMAN of Hancock; Mrs. A. F. McDONALD of West Hancock; Mrs. John N. MITCHELL of Hancock; Miss Emma HOLMAS who lives at home. Mr. and Mrs. HOLMAN were married in CORNWALL, ENGLAND 1853 July 14. The following year they came to America, settling in Copper Falls, Kewerenaw County. They spent two years at Copper Falls and than one year at the Cliff Mine, Keweenaw County. They than went to Hancock and stayed there till now. About 20 years ago he retired from active business. He was a miner for many years and conducted a general store in Hancock for 25 years. Death July 15 Wednesday-A message was received at the newspaper yesterday from Portland, Oregon stating that Patrick SHEEHAN, formerly of Calumet, and a son of Mrs. Mary SHEEHAN, of Newtown, Calumet. He was in the employ of a company working on a big extension to a waterworks system, when the accident happened. His remains will be shipped immediately to Calumet for burial here. News Item July 15 Wednesday- Capt William WEIR, who has charge of the underground mine operations of the South Hecla branch of the Calumet and Hecla Mining company,, leaves this evening, with his son, James, for New York and than sail to Scotland. Capt WEIR has not been home to Scotland for 33 years when he came to America. His native town is Wonlockhead, in the Southern part of Scotland, near Glasgow. He will spend two months visiting with relatives and friends. Marriage July 15 Wednesday-Emile F. ROY married Miss Marie Louise BRULE, both of Lake Linden, at St Joseph's church, Lake Linden, yesterday morning. Miss Alvina BRULE, sister of the bride, attended the bride and the best man was Homer ROY, brother of the groom. They will live in Lake Linden. Mrs. Frank ROY was the mother of the groom. Death July 15- Wednesday-Thomas BRULE, the 15 year old son of Thomas BRULE of South Lake Linden, died at his home on Monday from heart trouble. The funeral will be this morning from St Cecilia's Church, Lake Linden and burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. News Item July 16 Thursday- Howard BARKELL, of Lake Linden, who has been an employee of the Lake Linden Co-Operative Store, has gone to Virginia City, Minnesota to one of the stores in the Virginia company to locate. Deaths July 16 Thursday- William LANKSBURY, aged 71 years, died at his home in Calumet, yesterday morning. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND and came to Lake Superior in 1852. The funeral will be Friday afternoon from the Tamarack Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. July 17 Friday- Thomas GREGOROVICH, aged 20 years, single, was accidentally killed from injuries received at the North Tamarack mine yesterday morning. He had been in this country two years. The funeral will be Sunday in Calumet. She has lived in the Lake district for many years. She is survived by a husband and 12 children. The funeral will be at St Cecelia's church, Lake Linden and burial at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. July 18 Saturday-Isaac KURUNSAARA, was accidentally killed by a fall of ground in a stope at the 3rd level of the No 2 shaft of the Winona mine, Wednesday morning. July 19 Sunday- Mrs. Louisa CHAPMAN, wife of John CHAPMAN, aged 33 years, died at her Calumet home yesterday morning. She lived in Ishpeming, Michigan for many years before her marriage. She is survived by her husband and 4 children. Her father, Jacob JOHNSON and a sister, Mrs. JANTOS, arrived in Calumet before the end came. The funeral will take place next Monday afternoon, with services at the Calumet Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Death July 24 Friday-Felix PHEILLIN, aged 74 years, an old resident of Covington, was fond seriously ill at his homestead cabin by John STRINGER on Sunday. Deaths July 24 Friday- John KASPERS, aged 67 years, died yesterday afternoon at his home in Hurontown He died of cancer after many months of illness. He is survived by a wife, Elizabeth, and one son, Gabriel, who lives at home. The funeral will be Monday at St Ignatius church and burial at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. He had lived in Hurontown for the past 50 years. He was in business for himself .The German Aid Society will take charge of the funeral. July 25 Saturday- Joseph GRAHEK, who was so seriously injured in the runaway accident of his horse and carriage on Waterworks Street, Calumet on Thursday, died at the Northern Michigan hospital yesterday. He was prominent in local Austrian circles. The funeral will, be at St Mary's church, Calumet on Monday and burial at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Marriage July 26 Sunday - Edgar TREBILCOCK of Isle Royale stamp mills married Miss Bertha BREE at South Lake Linden last night, at the home of the brides parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed DAVEY of South Lake Linden. They will live at Isle Royale. July 31 Friday-- William H. GLASSON of Franklin mine filed for a marriage license with Miss Bessie BASSETT of CORNWALL, ENGLAND. It transpires t hat Mr. GLASSON and Miss BASSETT were engaged when he came to this country to seek work and she has now come to this country to marry him. Marriage August 1 Saturday- It just leaked out that Richard SUNDBERG - motorman of the street railway, Hancock married Miss Rose MUBCH of West Hancock by Rev A. R. JOHNS in Hancock this week. Deaths August 1 Saturday- Mrs. Henry SCHLEETER, died yesterday morning at her home in Lake Linden of consumption. She had been ill for years with consumption. She was raised in Lake Linden. She is survived by a husband, and three sons, the oldest 10 years old. A mother and several sisters who live in Lake Linden also survive her. The funeral will be Monday morning at St Joseph's church, Lake Linden and burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. August 1 Saturday- Silas LAWRENCE, aged 79 years, after a lingering illness, died of old age last Thursday at the Laurium home of his son. L. F. She is survived by her husband. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at St Mary's church, Calumet. Burial was at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. August 6 Thursday- The funeral of John T. SULLIVAN, aged 67 years ,took place yesterday morning at Sacred Heart church, Calumet and burial was at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. He was one of the early settlers in this section. He came 25 years ago and worked for the Calumet and Hecla company. He leaves a wife and one daughter. Aug 7- MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUJED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK Frank H. She came to Hancock in 1862. She is survived by 4 sons and two daughters. Her husband died several months ago. The funeral will be held Monday morning at St Patrick's Catholic church, Hancock. He was a pioneer of Hancock having resided here for 40 years. He was employed at the Quincy mine for 30 years. He was retired the past 10 years. August 11 Tuesday- Mrs. Clara Broad RODI, aged 44 years, wife of Dr Charles H. RODI, one of the corps of physicians at the Tamarack mine, died Sunday evening at her Tamarack home of cancer. She had been ill for the past 5 years. She leaves her husband, a daughter, Miss Irma RODI and a son, Mervin RODI. The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon from her Tamarack residence. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. News Item August 11 Tuesday- Charles ROWE, a brother John T. ROWE of Calumet, arrived here from CORNWALL, ENGLAND and may decide to make his home here permanently Death August 11 Tuesday- The remains of John MARTIN, who died at Hibbing, Minnesota, last week, will arrive in Calumet, Wednesday morning and be taken to the home of his brother, Fred MARTIN of Calumet, where the funeral will be held. He formerly lived in Calumet. Probate Matter August 11 Tuesday- In the matter of the estate of Peter REDlNG, his widow, Mary, stated he died 1888 June 12 and she is now asking for the lands he owned in Houghton county and all funds he had. Death August 12 Wednesday- Henry KEMP of Detroit, Michigan has arrived in Calumet to attend the funeral of Will KEMP, who died in Bisbee, Arizona last morning after 19 days illness, and whose remains are expected at Calumet today. The funeral will be held Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic church, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet .. Marriage August13 Thursday- George DYCHE married Mrs. Frances DEMARSE last evening, at the residence of the groom's sister, Mrs. James PEPPLATT, of Houghton. They will live in Houghton. She was brought to Lake Linden some days ago due to her illnesses. She was the mother of 3 sons and seven daughters, a number of which live in Calumet and Laurium. She was a resident of the copper country for many years. The funeral will be held t his afternoon from her daughter's Lake Linden home. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. Marriages August 13 Thursday- Charles KETTENBELL of Houghton married Miss Anna DUQUETTE of Lake Linden, at St Joseph's parsonage, Lake Linden, last night. A reception was held at the bride's parent’s home, Mr. and Mrs. George DUQUETTE. They were both reared in Lake Linden and will live there. August 14 Friday- Adrian J. CONANT of Houghton married Miss Mary E. JACKSON, yesterday at the Hancock Methodist parsonage. Death August 14 Friday- Mrs. Joseph PICHETTE, aged 58 years, died at her home in Calumet on Wednesday evening from an attack of dropsy. She has 8 children surviving her. The funeral will take place this morning at St Anne's church, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. August 15 Saturday- Mrs. Anna HANSON, aged 56 years, died at her home in Calumet yesterday from heart trouble. She leaves two sons- Oscar J. LARSON, the prosecuting attorney of Houghton County and Fred !-ARSON of Calumet. She was an old resident of Red Jacket. August 16 Sunday--Mrs. Sarah BISCOMBE, aged 58 years, wife of Captain John BISCOMBE, died last night at her home in Hurontown of a complication of diseases. She had been ill for some time. She was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND 1845 May 20, the daughter of Robert MILFORD and Anna COLE. Besides her husband she is survived by four sons- Henry and John of Calumet; James of Trimountain and Joseph of Hurontown and one daughter, Mrs. James JEFFRFY of Isle Royale. August 16 Sunday- The funeral of the late Richard VINCENT, whose death occurred suddenly Thursday, was held yesterday afternoon at the Hancock Methodist church. Burial was at the old Protestant cemetery in Hancock. August 16 Sunday- Mrs. Joseph CARRIVEAU, wife of Joseph CARRIVEAU, died at her Lake Linden home yesterday morning from cancer of the stomach and consumption. She was the mother of a large family. She has resided in Lake Linden for a number of years with her husband. The funeral was held yesterday at St Joseph's church, Lake Linden. Burial was at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. August 16 Sunday- The funeral of the late Patrick McGRATH of Tamarack City will be held this morning from St Cecelia's church, Lake Linden. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. August 16 Sunday- Leo SUMARO, aged 60 years, died on his farm about a mile east of the Florida mine location, Friday afternoon, from a complication of diseases. He leaves a wife to mourn him. The funeral took place yesterday at the Finnish Lutheran church on Pine Street, Calumet. Burial was at Lake Vie w cemetery, Calumet.
