He thinks there is no place like the copper country. Death March 3 Tuesday- Mrs. John FLACK, aged 46 years, died last night at her home in Laurium after being ill for several months. Her husband died last September leaving her with 5 young children, three of whom have been at the Marquette Orphan Asylum since. The funeral will be Wednesday morning. Marriages March 3 Tuesday-Mat MATSON married Miss Lizzie RENDA, both of Dollar Bay, at the Finnish Temperance Hall, Dollar bay, Saturday evening. The groom works for the Lake Superior Smelting Company, Dollar Bay. They will reside in Dollar Bay. March 3 Tuesday- William SNEIDER married Miss Effie M. BRIGGS at Mankato, Minnesota, yesterday. He is foreman over a large force of men working for the Copper Range Railroad from Hancock to Lake Linden. They will live in Lake Linden for a time. News Item March 3 Tuesday- George McDONALD an employee of the Opal meat market in South Lake Linden, leaves today for Bisbee, Arizona where he will make his home. News Item March 3 Tuesday- Frank CLARKE, who has been employed as foreman on the construction of the new Quincy mine coal dock, will leave today for Fort Williams, Ontario, Canada, with Oliver NORTH, to work with his brother, James CLARKE, in the erection of a large coal plant. Birth March 4 Wednesday- Born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. HALL of Chassell, a baby girl. Deaths March 4 Wednesday- Henry BLICK, of Tamarack, of hemorrhage yesterday. He was unmarried. The funeral will be Thursday. March 4 Wednesday- Mrs Marguerite CORBEIL, died yesterday morning at her home in Lake Linden. She was the wife of Treffle CORBEIL, Sr. She was an aged lady and was ailing for two years. She was born in Canada and came to the copper country, with her husband, in the early days of the Lake Superior region, being one of the oldest residents of this area. She is survived by her husband and seven grown children- Treffle, Jr. ; Joseph; Jerimie and Alfred, all of Lake Linden also Mrs. PLANTE of Montreal, Canada; Mrs. Joseph ROBERTS and Mrs. E. J. THIBAULT, both of Lake Linden. The funeral will be held on Thursday from St Joseph's church, Lake Linden. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. News Item March 4 Wednesday- George McDONALD; John McDONALD; Curtis GLANVILLE; John B. TOUPIN; Walter MIRON and Jacob SLONAKER, all of Lake Linden, left yesterday for the Warren Mining district, of Arizona and make their homes there. Marriage March 5 Thursday- Thomas HOSKING of Hancock married Miss Della PUGHSLEY daughter of J. O. PUGHSLEY, of Oswosso, Michigan, at the Oswosso Methodist church, yesterday. The bride is from one of the wealthiest families in Oswosso and the groom is the brother of Postmaster W. H. HOSKING of Calumet and DR James HOSKING of AIIouez, Keweenaw County. They will live in Hancock. Death March 6 Friday-- Alexander McLEAN, a young man of Calumet, was killed at work early yesterday morning in the Calumet mine. He was struck by falling rock and crushed to the ground. He was taken to the Calumet and Hecla hospital and operated on, but died shortly after the operation. He formerly lived in Hurontown, with his brother, who died a few years ago. The funeral will Monday afternoon at the Calumet Congregational church. He leaves a mother, and 3 brothers- Kenneth and George, who are at home in Calumet; and Stewart living in Nebraska. The mother lost her husband, and her only daughter, both in the prime of live. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. March 6- MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK Richard C. ROBERTS of Calumet and Sadie M. MURRAY of Marquette, Marquette County, Michigan Deaths March 6 Friday- Peter BAREND, aged 86 years, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. B. BEHRAUER, in East Houghton. He died of old age. The funeral will held Saturday at St Ignatius Catholic church, Houghton. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. March 6- Ella, the wife of Victor JOHNSON of Albion, aged 40 died yesterday at the Calumet hospital. She leaves her husband and two boys. The funeral will be Sunday. Marriages March 11 Wednesday- Richard ROBERTS of Calumet , son of Mr. and Mrs. William ROBERTS of Quincy Mills married Miss Sadie MURRAY at Eagle River, Keweenaw County yesterday. They will live in Calumet. March 12 Thursday- Albert M. MOORE, the Hancock photographer married Mrs. Rose BURDE, of Chicago, Illinois, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank WORNE of Hancock, last night. The groom has been in business as a photographer for the past 6 months in Hancock, coming here from Montana. The bride arrived on the noon train yesterday from Chicago. Death March 12 Thursday- Mrs. Andrew CAMPBELL, aged 67 years, died suddenly of heart failure, at her Lake Linden home. She had resided in Lake Linden over 28 years. She had been in America over 50 years, locating first at Keweenaw County in Copper Harbor and than Central mine, where she married her husband. She is survived by her husband, 73 years old, and 4 sons- Andrew, manager of the Champion mine; William, Captain of police and Daniel, both of Leadville, Colorado; Morris of Lake Linden and a daughter-Mrs. John McKINNON of Lake Linden. The funeral will be held Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic church, Lake Linden. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. She resigned her position as a teacher at Suomi College, HancocK. They will reside in Toronto. Death March 15 Sunday- Mrs.Andrew JOHNSON, aged 59, died at her home at the Quincy mine, yesterday. She is survived by a husband and five children. The funeral will be Tuesday afternoon at the Hancock Finnish Lutheran church. Marriage March 15 Sunday- George TOWNSEND married Mrs. Alma CHELLEW, both of the Franklin mine location, yesterday morning at the Hancock Methodist parsonage. They will make their home at the Baltic mine location. Deaths March 15-Sunday-- Miss Beatrice MOYLE aged 19 years, only daughter of the late Capt J. H. MOYLE and Mother- Mary Ann RETTER, died Friday evening at the home of her aunt, Mrs. C. M. BOON. The funeral will be on Sunday. She and her parents are from CAMBORNE, CORNWALL, ENGLAND. March 17 Tuesday- Mrs. Martha GILBERT, aged 36 years, wife of Robert GILBERT whom she married one year ago, died at her Painesdale home yesterday morning. She is the mother of John CURNOW, late of Hancock; also she is survived by her husband and five children. She was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the daughter of John B. CURNOW and Martha PERRY of CORNWALL. Burial will be held at the Osceola Methodist church Thursday and burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Deaths March 17 Tuesday- Charles William PETERSON, aged 17 years, of Florida mine location, died yesterday. The funeral will be held Thursday. March 17 Tuesday- John Edward KLU'I-rU, aged 16 years, of Centennial Heights, died at the Calumet and Hecla hospital yesterday. The funeral will be held Wednesday. March 17 Tuesday- Michael HARRINGTON, aged 23 years, son of Mrs. M. HARRINGTON of Osceola location, died yesterday afternoon of lung trouble. He had been living in the West but returned home a few days ago to Osceola. March 17 Tuesday—Mrs. Mary FREDERICKSON, aged 69 years, died at the home of her son, Isaac FREDERICKSON, of Calumet, last Sunday morning. She leaves two sons- Isaac and John F. FREDERICKSON. The funeral will take place today with services at the Finnish Lutheran church on Pine Street, Calumet. News Items March 19 Thursday- Samuel BETTENS and William MERRITT, both of Calumet have given up their work at the Calumet and Hecla mining company and are retiring to their old homes in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. They invested a bunch of money in stock of the Calumet and Arizona company and are now considered well off. They figure they have worked long enough and can live in CORNWALL for the rest of their lives. March19 Thursday- Joseph JENKINS and his sister, Miss JENKINS, accompanied by Harry TREGONING, all of South Lake Linden, left last evening to spend two months in their old homes in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. Deaths March 20 Friday- Mrs. Ellen GUNVILLE, aged 58 years, widow of the late Isaac GUNVlLLE, died at her home in Tamarack City yesterday, from a severe attack of t he grip. She had lived in this district for a long term of years. Five children survive her, the youngest is a daughter, 10 years old. The daughter is very ill and it is thought that she has not long to live. The husband, Isaac, died about two years ago. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning from St Cecelia's church, South Lake Linden., Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. March 20 Friday- The funeral of the late Joseph BEAUCHAMP who died last Tuesday at his home in Laurium, will take place this morning, with services at St Anne's French church, Calumet. March 20 Friday- Miss Hilda ADAMSON, a well known young woman of Wolverine mine location, died yesterday at her home, after a short illness. March 20 Friday- Jacob PYKAS, aged 21 years, died yesterday at the home of his parents in AIIouez, Keweenaw County, of consumption. He is survived by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. The funeral will be on Sunday from the Finnish Lutheran church on 8th Street, Calumet. Probate Matter and Death March 20 Friday- In the matter of the estate of Arthur S. DURHAM, deceased, his widow, Evelyn W. DURHAM asked the court to appoint her administrator of the estate. Deaths March 21 Saturday- The funeral of Mrs. Mary LOWNEY ,whose death occurred Thursday at her Hancock home after a lengthy illness, will be held Sunday afternoon from St Patrick's church, Hancock. Burial will be at the old Catholic cemetery, Hancock. March 22 Sunday-Mrs. William VAN ORDEN, died yesterday morning at her home in Houghton, she was an old settler. She came from her home in Perrysville, Ohio, with her brother, John SLAWSON, in 1852, who was than in charge of the Northwestern mine in Keweenaw county. After one year she went back to her hometown in Ohio and stayed six years, till 1860 when she went to the Cliff Mine, and Eagle River, in Keweenaw county, at which place she married Mr VAN ORDEN in 1865. She is survived by her husband. The funeral will be held on Monday from the family residence in East Houghton. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery. Houghton. March 22 Sunday- Mrs. Dave STAYRA of Elbowtown, died yesterday morning of dropsy. She is survived by her husband. The funeral will be held Monday morning from St Joseph's church, Hancock. News Item March 24 Tuesday- Mrs. Joseph GLASSON and two children left CORNWALL, ENGLAND yesterday on their way to Calumet. Mr. GLASSON is employed as city reporter for the Calumet Evening Newspaper. Deaths March 25 Wednesday- Word has been received of the death of John HENDRA, aged 60 years, at his home in CORNWALL, ENGLAND He lived at Tamarack for a number of years and was employed as a miner. He left Calumet fly e years ago to spend the remaining years of his life in CORNWALL, his place of birth. He leaves a wife, who was at his bedside at his death; also a son, John, Jr., who is employed on the South Range and a sister, Mrs. J. B. GRIBBLE of Calumet. March 26 Thursday- Olaf DOLKY, aged about 50 years, died April 1 at the Wolverine mine hospital, in an accident on March 25. He was filling ore cars and somehow some carts got loose and struck the one he was working on and he was tossed in front of the car and it ran over him. He leaves a wife. The paper said first he died March 25 but on April 3 it said he tried to recover but finally died. Marriage March 26 Thursday- Charles F. PAULL married Miss Bessie C. HOSKINS, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph HOSKINS, of Laurium last night. March 27- MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK George E. WARNER of Redridge and Katherine ALT, of Lake Linden Death March 27 Friday- Word has been received here of the death of George HOSKING, aged 35 years, formerly a miner at the Tamarack mine. He died at his old home in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. Several years ago he was injured in a blast at a mine in California and later went back to CORNWALL to stay. He died of pneumonia. He was a single man. Marriage March 27 Friday- -George E. WARNER of Redridge married Miss Katherine ALT, of Lake Linden, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester J. HOLLISTER of Lake Linden, last night. They will make their future home at Redridge, where the groom has a lucrative position with the Atlantic Mine Company. Deaths March 29 Sunday- Abram LEKANO, the miner killed at the Wyandot mine Friday night., stated before his death he had a daughter, Ida LEKANO ,in Houghton. He said he had not seen her for sometime and did not know where she worked. The Wyandot Mining company asked the employers in Houghton and Hancock, employing girls to notify her of her father's death. His body is at a mortuary awaiting someone to claim it for burial. March 29 Sunday- Mrs. Elizabeth ODGERS, aged 61, widow of the late John ODGERS, died yesterday afternoon after an illness of three weeks, at her Calumet home. Her husband died 10 years ago in a mine accident at the Calumet and Hecla mine. She was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND and was the daughter of William HILL and Mary HILL .The funeral will be held tomorrow from the residence and burial at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. March 29 Sunday- The funeral of the late Mrs. Graeme HOSSNER will take place this afternoon at the DANIELL home on Pewabic Street, Laurium and the internment at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. March 29 Sunday- Andrew CAMPBELL. aged 73 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John McKINNON of Lake Linden, last night.. His death is atrributed to the sudden death of his wife on March 11 .. He had been a. resident of the Lake Superior district for over 50 years. Twenty years he spent in Keweenaw county. The last thirty years he spent in Lake Linden and was an employee of the Calumet and Hecla branch. He is survived by four sons- Andrew, manager of the Leadville, Colorado mills; Daniel of Leadville; and Morris of Lake Linden.; one daughter-Mrs. John McKINNON, he is Marshal of Lake Linden. The funeral will be this morning from Holy Rosary church, Lake Linden and burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. News Item March 31 Tuesday- Two men who resigned their positions in the Calumet and Helca mine working underground are Thomas ROWLING, who worked for many years for the mine, bought Calumet and Hecla stock at the bottom price, and plans to take it easy and live on the dividends, Also Peter CAMERON of Laurium bought the same stock and plans to travel around the United States on his dividends. Deaths Mach 31 Tuesday- The death of Mrs. Peter SAUER, was a surprise to her friends on Saturday. She died at her Calumet home. The services will be at her home and the burial at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. today. March 31Tuesday-Mrs Angus REHFUS, aged 34 years, died at the Calumet hospital yesterday. Her home was at the Florida mine location. She is survived by a husband and four children. Funeral will be Wednesday at the Laurium Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. News Item March 31 Tuesday- John HUNINTER, who has been employed by the Calumet and Hecla mine for some time, has given up his position, and left last Sunday night for Boise, Idaho. He has position on a railroad awaiting him. He has not been in good health for some time and believes a change of climate will be good for him. Death March 31 Tuesday-Michael BURKE, father of Mrs. William McGRATH, died at his home in Fon Du Lac, Wisconsin, last Saturday morning and was buried yesterday. Mrs. McGRATH is expected home the latter part of next week. Deaths April 2 Thursday- Mrs. Thomas BONITHON, aged about 30 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. RULE of South Lake Linden, died Monday evening at the Trimountain mill after an illness of appendicitis. She is survived by her husband who is a carpenter boss at the Trimountain miIl and 4 children, 3 daughters and one son., her parents, three sisters-Mrs. Thomas PAINTER and Mrs. Albert GALLOWAY, both of South Lake Linden; and Mrs. George HIGGINS of Dollar Bay.; also one brother, John Rule of Sault Ste Marie. Up to two years ago she resided with her parents in South Lake Linden. The funeral will be from the parents home in South Lake Linden and burial will be at Maple Hill cemetery, Lake Linden. April 2 Thursday - Mat KIRCHEN, aged about 23 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter KIRCHEN, died in Arizona on Monday. About three years ago he suffered a severe hemmorage of the lung and had to go to Arizona for his health on the advice of his doctors. He stayed there for two years and went to Arizona and died at the home of his brother John, of Phoenix, Arizona. He was a graduate of Lake Linden High School in 1898 and worked in the office of Calumet and Hecla mine. He is survived by his parents; 5 brothers and two sisters-Nicholas; Wm; Charles; Miss Tillie and Miss Gertie, all 5 of Montana; and John of Arizona. The remains were taken to Great Falls, Montana for burial. April 2 Thursday- John JAMES, aged 43 years, died at his Calumet home yesterday after a very short illness. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND son of John JAMES and Mary PENGELLY. He leaves a wife and 8 small children. He was married to his present wife three weeks ago. The funeral will take place Saturday with services from the Calumet Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. News Item April 4 Saturday- Mr. and Mrs. Fred G. SANDERS, who formerly resided in Houghton, but who have been living in Oskosh, Wisconsin for the past three years, have returned to Houghton to live here permanently. Death April 4 Saturday- Vitale ISABELLE dropped dead of heart failure at Eusebe CORZE'S saloon Thursday morning in Houghton. He was a Frenchman who worked on a farm in Paradise. He left a son Joseph. The funeral will be held at the son's house in Hancock. today. News Item April 4 Saturday- John and Joseph WALLS, who have been employed at the Tamarack mine for a long time, are leaving today for New Mexico where they have good jobs awaiting them. Deaths April 5 Sunday- Henry SYMONS, aged 37 years, son of Thomas SYMONS and Mary VlVlAN of CORNWALL, ENGLAND, died at the No 3 shaft of the North Tamarack mine, by falling down a ladder in the mine. He was single and resided in Calumet for 18 months. He came to Calumet from a Pennsylvania mine and was born in CORNWALL. The funeral will be held from his home on Tuesday. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. He leaves a widow, Susan, in Calumet. April 5 Sunday- Thomas BOCKARD, the young man who died after an operation for appendicitis, at the home of C. W. RYKMAN, Calumet, last night. He lived here for 2 and a half years. His body will be shipped to Bad Axe, Michigan for burial. Deaths April 5 Sunday- The remains of Fred ECKER, aged 22 years ,were brought to Lake Linden yesterday from Greenwood, Ontonagon, Michigan where he died., for burial at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph ECKER, former residents of Lake Linden. He died from injuries at the Adventure mine 7 months ago. The funeral will be at Holy Rosary church, Lake Linden this afternoon. He is survived by a widow, young daughter, parents and brothers and sisters. April 5 Sunday- Will BEAUCHAINE, aged 35 years, who early last fall sustained serious injuries at the Phoenix mine location, Keweenaw County, died yesterday afternoon at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles BEAUCHAINE of Lake Linden. He is survived by three brothers- Henry; Joseph; and David and one sister- Mrs. L. S. CHABOT; besides his parents. The funeral will be held from St Joseph's church, Lake Linden on Tuesday morning. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. April 7 Tuesday- Mrs. Caroline CROOK. aged 58 years, mother of Mrs. Leona MILLER of Houghton, died at the home of her daughter in Houghton. Death was due to cerebral hemmorage. She lived in this area a short time. The remains were shipped yesterday to Titusvine, Pennsylvania for burial there. April 7- MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK August HALVERSON of Hancock and Miss Ellen ANDERSON of the Arcadian mine Deaths April 7 Tuesday- Mrs. Delphine BEAUCHAINE, died yesterday at the home of Joseph TURCOTTE, of Lake Linden for whom she was his housekeeper, of rheumatic fever. Since the death of her husband several years ago, she had worked heroically to raise. Wednesday morning from St Joseph church, Lake Linden. Burial will be at Mount Calvary, Lake Linden. April 7 Tuesday- William WAREHAM Sr., aged 71 years, died Sunday afternoon at his Lake Linden home of a throat and lung complaint. He was one of the oldest residents of Lake Linden, living here for 25 years. He is survived by a widow, two brothers- Mathew of Lake Linden and Richard of Calumet; and two sisters- one in Canada and the other in California. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at his residence and burial at Maple Hill cemetery, Lake Linden. April 7 Tuesday-- The funeral of the late Peter BAHOR of Laurium was held yesterday morning. He was a member of the Austrian Society, which attended in a group. Burial was at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. April 7 Tuesday- Mrs. Jane SACKETT, aged 64 years, died at her home in Chassell Saturday morning after a long illness. She is survived by five children, four of whom live in Chassell. The funeral was held at the Chassell Congregational Church yesterday afternoon and burial was at the Chassell cemetery. Marriages April 8 Wednesday- A. O. SMITH of Duluth, Minnesota married Miss Mary HOLMES of Calumet last Monday evening at Calumet. They will reside in Duluth. April 8 Weds- Veil George MacLEAN wed Miss Cearalia A. KARBLOM, both of Calumet, at the home of the brides parents in Calumet last Saturday evening. COWAN of South Lake Linden is offering her household goods for sale as she intends to leave shortly to make her home in Arizona with her husband who is there now. J. RUBIN of Lake Linden to Miss Pearl GITLER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. GITLER of Laurium, yesterday afternoon at the brides parents home. The maid of honor was Sophia GITLER, the brides sister and the best man was Alex MEGEROW. The wedding march was played Miss Sarah GITLER, the brides sister. Rabbi ABRAHAMS performed the ceremony. They will reside at Lake Linden. Deaths April 10 Friday- Miss Elizabeth JACOBSON, aged 22 years, died yesterday morning at the Lake Superior General Hospital Lake Linden from a very serious internal complaint. She has lived in Lake Linden for several years. About 4 years ago her father was killed in an accident at the Osceola-Tamarack mills. Two years later her mother died. Leaving her and her sister alone in the world. The sister has been teaching in schools in Minneapolis, Minnesota and came here for the funeral. The funeral will be held Saturday morning from the Holy Rosary church, Lake Linden, Burial will be at Mount Calvary, Lake Linden. April 10 Friday- The remains of Henry McLAUGHLIN, aged 28 years, brother of Mrs Thomas DONLAN of Dollar Bay, arrived at Dollar Bay yesterday. He died in Chicago, Illinois after a lengthy illness. Death April 11 Saturday- James LOWRY, aged 74 years, died yesterday of old age, at his Hancock home. He had lived in the Lake Superior region for 40 years. The greatest number of years was in Hancock. He leaves a widow, two daughters and four sons. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from St Patrick's church, Hancock. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. Death April 11 Saturday- John EDGERTON, aged 39 years, of Portage Entry died Thursday night at St Joseph's hospital, Hancock of appendicitis. He is survived by a wife and four children. The remains were shipped to L'anse, Baraga County, Michigan where they will be buried. News Items April 11 Saturday- Clarence MARVIN has moved his family from Ewen, Michigan to Sidnaw and will occupy the house lately vacated by Newton SLICK. Newton SLICK, who is employed by the D. S. R. and A railway to look after the water tank west of Sidnaw, has moved to Trout Creek. Death April 12 Sunday- Herbert J. SEWELL, for 42 years, a resident of Houghton, died yesterday at his home in Houghton., of pulmonary trouble. He is survived by a wife and two brothers-Will of Houghton and Harry of Great Falls, Montana and a sister- Mrs. W. T. GRAY of Houghton. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. He was engaged in the plumbing business. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon from his residence and burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. Death April 14 Tuesday- Jacob HALMEKANGUS of Quincy died Sunday afternoon of inflammation of the lungs. He is survived by a wife and six children. He had had pneumonia last fall and with Mrs. ALMOSCH went to Arizona. He was a master mason and met all the prominent men in the county in his work. He is survived by his wife, 5 sons- John; Chris; Mathew; Louis and Arthur; 2 daughters- Anne and May. H e had worked for the Calumet and Hecla mine Company for many years and than went to work for Contractor P. P. ROEHM. His wife sent his body back to Laurium for burial .The funeral will be held at his home next Sunday afternoon. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Death APRIL 15 Wednesday- The body of Charles HELBURG, who disappeared last November, a fisherman of Portage Entry, was finally found on the beach of Lake Superior. He was about 65 years or the boat. Deaths April 16 Thursday- Emanuel Holman RICHARDS., aged 68 years, son of Charles HOLMAN and Elizabeth HOLMAN,. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, He lived at the Franklin mine, and died Sunday evening. His death occurred from an accident in the Franklin machine shop. The funeral services were held at his home and burial was at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. April 16 Thursday- The funeral of Jacob HOLMAKANGOS of Frenchtown, who died Sunday of typhoid pneumonia, was held Tuesday afternoon. Services were held at the Hancock Finnish church and burial was at the Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. He was survived by a wife and four children. He had been sick only three days when death came April 16 Thursday- News was received in Houghton yesterday of the death at Riverside, California on April 13, of Mrs. James H. BLAND, aged 61 years...She is survived by her husband, two brothers- John H. and James P. EDWARDS and by two sisters—Mrs. Mary E. SHELDEN and Mrs. John P. HUNT. She was the daughter of the late Capt Richard EDWARDS. Until recently she was a resident of Houghton. She will be buried at Riverside cemetery. April 16 Thursday- The body of John GODDARD, who died at Trimountain this week, was brought to Calumet yesterday afternoon. The funeral will be held today. April 16 Thursday- Charles F. KEHL, aged 45 years, died yesterday afternoon at his home in East Houghton. He had lived in Houghton 30 years. He was employed in the meat business on Sheldon street. He is survived by his wife, Annie; a son, Herman; a daughter Miss Hattie; three brothers- William and Herman, both of Houghton and Charles E. of Chicago. The funeral will be Friday from his residence. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. April 18 Sunday- The funeral of Mrs. William RAFF, who died Friday night at her Calumet home, will be held this afternoon. April 18- John GEORGE ,aged 23 years, son of Mrs. John HILL of Calumet, died at Lapeer, Mich. yesterday. He live in Calumet all his life till last year when he went to Laper. His body will be brought to Calumet for the funeral from his home in Calumet tomorrow. Deaths April 19 Sunday- John H. MOLESWORTH of Chicago, a disappointed lover, shot, Mrs. Bridget MAHER at her home in Hurontown, the mother of the girl who turned him down, giving her a flesh wound in the hip. He then shot himself to death. A neighbor, Mrs. Michael SHEA, was a witness. He was about 34 years old. His wife in Englewood, Illinois was contacted. The remains were sent to Englewood for burial. April 19 Sunday- William BARKEL, aged 27 years, who had his right leg amputated at St Joseph's hospital Hancock Friday, died that night as a result of the amputation. He is survived by four brothers- Richard; James; Joseph; and Charles; also two sisters- Mrs. McDONALD of Arizona and Mrs. EVANS of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The funeral will be held at the Congregational church, Hancock, Monday afternoon. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. News Item April 19 Sunday- William P.KEMP, who has been employed with the electrical department of the Calumet and Hecla Mine for the past 6 years, has resigned his position to accept a position with the Bisbee, Arizona Improvement company. Deaths April 21 Tuesday- Mrs. Mary LAUNDERGAN, of Duluth, Minnesota, whose death occurred Saturday, was brought to Houghton, on the early morning train yesterday for burial. Funeral services were held at St Patrick's church, Hancock Saturday, with burial at the Old Catholic cemetery, Hancock. April 21 Tuesday- Stephen DAVEY, aged 64 years, familiarly known in Houghton and Keweenaw counties, as "Uncle Steve", died at his home at Kearsearge Sunday night, after an illness of three weeks. He died of a hemmorage. He had been a miner all his life, working underground almost 50 years. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND in 1859, the son of James and Martha DAVEY. When he came to this country at age 23 years, he settled in the south, and after a few years of southern life he returned to CORNWALL: and later came to Ontonagon to settle first. After a few years he moved to the Cliff mine in Keweenaw County. For the past 35 years, he and his family have been residents of the Cliff mine; AIIouez mine and the Kearsearge mine. He leaves a wife and 9 children- 4 of them in the West- Stephen in California; John and Mrs. Bessie NETTLE, both in Butte, Montana; Mrs. Lena HOLMES of Ely, Minnesota; Mrs. William JACKSON of AIIouez mine location; Mrs. Alfred COLLINS of Gay; Mrs. K James HUGGINS, Thomas and James, all 3 of Kearsearge. The funeral will be held from the Kersearge Methodist church tomorrow. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. April 21 Tuesday- Mrs. E. J. WHITE, wife of the Calumet restaurant man, died at her Calumet home of brain fever. The funeral will be held this morning at the Red Jacket Congregational church.
