SWIFT married Miss Olive YOWDEN, both of Phoenix, Keweenaw County, Michigan, at the Phoenix home of the bride's parents on Tuesday evening. GAINES, of Hancock MARRIAGE 1903 January 3 Saturday-- Edward BRYANT married Miss Lillie NORTHEY of Atlantic mine, at the home of the bride's parents in Atlantic on Thursday evening. William BRYANT was the best man and Miss Edith NORTHEY was the bridesmaid. They will live at Atlantic. DEATH 1903 January 3 Saturday- John LAAKENEN was instantly killed in the Adventure mine Thursday morning by falling rock. He was working between number 1 and number 3 shaft when struck. He leaves a wife and five children. He was buried at Greenland, Ontonagon County on Sunday. MARRIAGE 1903 January 3 Saturday- David DOONAN married Miss Nellie E. SULLIVAN at Greenland, Ontonagon County, Michigan, at the home of her parents, on New Years evening.. John BOGAN was best man, the bridesmaid was Miss Margaret SULLIVAN. NEWS ITEM 1903 January 3 Saturday- Clyde PENHALL left this afternoon for Corliss, Wisconsin where he has taken a position in the shops there. DEATH 1903 January 3 Saturday- Mary Christina MURPHY, aged 21 years, oldest daughter of P. C. MURPHY a Mineral Range engineer, died yesterday in her fathers Hancock home of pneumonia. MARRIAGE 1903 January 3 Saturday- Mackintosh M. MORRISON married Miss Isabelle ROBINSON of Ontonagon , at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William CARMICHAEL of Calumet, last Wednesday evening. He is the foreman of a Hecla blacksmith shop. 1903 Jany 4- MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK Nicholson J. FEZZY and Edna BELANGER, of Trimountain DEATHS 1903 January 4 Sunday- Friends of Miss Mamie DONOVAN, formerly of Lake Linden, received word by telegram yesterday morning that she had died yesterday in Colorado. She lived with her mother and brother in Colorado the last several months. She died of heart failure. She had previously taught school in the Calumet schools as well as Lake Linden. She will be buried in Colorado and in the summer her remains will be shipped to Lake Linden and buried in Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden in the family lot. 1903 January 4 Sunday- Word has been received at Dollar Bay during the last week of the death of August HOPPA at the Michigan State Mental Asylum at Newberry. He was taken to Newberry many months ago due to a mental derangement. He has relatives in Dollar Bay. He was buried in Newberry. UNCLAIMED LETTERS AT HOUGHTON POST OFFICE 1903 January 4 5 Sunday - Louise BLODGET; Thomas BATH; John LAINE; Nikolla LEHTINEN; Henry MOLLANEN; Mrs. Nellie OATES; Otonne PERGROVE; DEATH 1903 January 6 Tuesday- Mrs. Grace Lortimer HOATSON, aged 80 years, died yesterday at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. George REES in Calumet. She was the widow of the late Capt Thomas HOATSON who died in 1897 and for many years head mining Captain at the Calumet and Hecla mines. She died of a paralytic stroke. She leaves children- Capt James H. and Thomas of Calumet; Mrs. Dollie COLLINS of Bisbee, Arizona; Mrs. Thomas Cole and Miss Lizzie, both of Duluth, Minnesota. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from the home of Dr. REES. Internment will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet in the family plot. Deaths January 6 Tuesday-John E. HOCKING, aged 72 years, who has been a resident of Hancock continuously for the last 52 years, died Sunday night at his Hancock home. He was born in BODMIN, CORNWALL, ENGLAND in 1830, the son of Richard HOCKING and Mary EDDY. He came to America in 1851 and has lived in this area since that time. He worked at the Cliff mill on tribute and left there to become manager of the Quincy stamp mill for 18 years. After that he was in the millinery business, in Hancock. He married Miss Joy JENNINGS of Darlington, Wisconsin in 1852. She lived but two years after the marriage. In 1865 he remarried to Miss Emma JENNINGS of Keweenaw County, who died last July. He leaves two children- Mrs. Henry PRISK of Laurium and William John HOSKING of Republic, Michigan. Also two sisters – Mrs. O. T. THRIFT of Worcestershire, ENGLAND and Mrs. Elizabeth DAVIS of Paris. The funeral will be held at the Hancock Methodist church Wednesday morning. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery. Hancock. January 6 Tuesday-The frozen body of Charles KOSK. Hancock. He had been a miner for 10 years at the Quincy mine. He was found in a drunken condition and apparently fell down and hit his head on rocks in the field, leading to his death. He leaves a wife and 5 children. His body was taken to a Finnish Undertakers in Hancock. January 6 Tuesday- Mrs. Mary MORREY, aged 54 years, dropped dead in her home in West Houghton of heart disease. She was born in Germany and came to the copper country when she was a child. She lived most of her life in Hancock. Her husband died two years after she was married. For many years she had supported herself and her son by dressmaking. Her maiden name was MILLER. Her son, Frank MORREY, is 24 years old. Besides her son she leaves two sisters and two brothers- Mrs. Annie LAUX of Hancock; Mrs. Maggie HAGEY of Grover; Tony of Hancock and Joseph of Ashland, Wisconsin. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at St Ignatius church, Hancock. News Item January 7 Wednesday- Miss Adelaide KRAMER of Hancock has gone to Butte, Montana, where she will make her home with her brother, Joseph KRAMER. Deaths January 8 Thursday- Mrs. Ann NICHOLS, a pioneer resident of Hancock, aged 81 ,years, died yesterday of heart disease, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. A. TRINGER, in Detroit, Michigan. She was born in CORNWALL .ENGLAND and came to America with her husband. She settled in Hancock 20 years ago. About 30 years ago her husband died and she had lived with son ever since. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. C. A. STRINGER of Detroit; Mrs. J. A. BOWDEN of Hurley, Wisconsin; Mrs. James S. WALL, of Iron River, Michigan and one son, Edward W. NICHOLS of Hancock. She will be buried at Waterloo, near Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where her husband is buried .. Funeral services will be held Saturday in Detroit. January 8 Thursday—Mrs. John MISOLONI died last night at her farm near Swedetown. She was 57 years old. January 9 Friday- Mrs. Abram EDRRICNLARGI of Centennial Height, aged 25 years, died yesterday .She is survived by a husband and six children. The funeral will be held Saturday. KNIGHT of Trimountain and Susie GRIBBLE of Calumet Deaths January 10 Saturday- The funeral of Andrew MAKELA, the Champibe from the Apostolic Lutheran church in Hancock Sunday afternoon, with the burial at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. January 11 Sunday—Mrs. William BROHN, Jr., aged 62 years, died yesterday morning at her Hancock home of heart disease. She was born in Germany, was married there, and came to live in the 1870s. She is survived by her husband, and seven children--the sons are-William, Herman and Henry and the daughters are Mrs. Mary MEYER; Miss Annie; Miss Louise and Mrs. H. HOCHNER. The funeral will be tomorrow from St Peter's and St Paul's German church in Hancock. Internment will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. Marriage January 13 Tuesday-- Thomas BERRYMAN married Miss Mary ONEIL at the home of the groom's father, Thomas BERRYMAN, Sr. at Laurium. They were married last week. Deaths January 14 Wednesday-- Herman HESSE, died on Wednesday from being scalded at work at the Adventure mine, William BRITTEN, who was badly scalded and died also when they accidentally opened up a valve in pipe that was full of hot water. Mr. BRITTEN's body was shipped to Port Huron, Michigan for burial. January 14 Wednesday- Dolphe BRAULT, aged about 45 years old formerly of Lake Linden, dropped dead yesterday morning while at work. He leaves a wife and three children, 2 sons and one daughter. Also a brother- Arthur BRAULT of Lake Linden. He left $2000.00 life insurance. He had resided at Lake Linden for a long number of years before moving to the Champion mill. The funeral will be Thursday morning from St Joseph's church, Lake Linden. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. January 14 Wednesday- Bertha Marion ROE, the youngest daughter of James ROE of the Quincy mills, died yesterday morning. She will be buried at Maple Hill cemetery, Lake Linden. The services will be held at the home. January 14 Wednesday- Alex McSWAIN died of pneumonia at his Laurium home yesterday. He was a foreman for Contractor MORRISON. He is survived by a widow and five children. The body will be shipped tomorrow to Lucknow, Ontario, Canada for burial. January 14 Wednesday- Mrs. John PALOSARI, aged 40 years, died at her home at the Wolverine mine location yesterday. She is survived by a husband and one child. The funeral will be held tomorrow from the Pine Street Lutheran church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Marriages January 15 Thursday- Athole Taylor MacMILLAN, formerly of Polo, Illinois but now of Lansing, Michigan., at t he home of parents of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. John Wheeler HERRICK of Chicago on January 4. She is the daughter of H. H. OSBORN of Calumet and she taught school in Calumet, also Polo, where she met the groom. She left Polo to go to Lansing, Michigan to teach music at a school.. January 15 Thursday-- George St GEORGE of Duluth, Minnesota married Miss Laura LEMAY, a former Lake Linden resident, in Duluth, yesterday. They will reside in Duluth. Marriage January 16 Friday- Marcus DANIELS married Miss Elsie ROBINS, at the West Houghton home of the groom's parents last night. Death January 16 Friday- The funeral of Frank ANDERSON, aged 33 years, the miner killed at the Phoenix mine, Keweenaw county on Wednesday, will be held at the Phoenix mine location today. He is survived by a widow and two children. Marriage January 17 Saturday- George ROSS married Miss Debena RICHARDS of Ripley, took place at St Joseph's Catholic church, Hancock rectory on Wednesday evening. Harry JENNINGS was the best man and Miss Amelia ZIMMERMAN was the bridesmaid. They will live in Ripley. News Item January 17 Saturday- Samuel R. TRENGOVE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel TRENGOVE arrived in Lake Linden yesterday after spending the last 18 months in Cape Coast Castle in the mines ,. South Africa. Before coming to America he visited CORNWALL. ENGLAND to visit friends and relatives at his place of birth. Deaths January 20 Tuesday- Nettie WILLIAMS, aged 20 years, daughter of James WILLIAMS, of Houghton, died at St Joseph's Hospital, Hancock yesterday from the effects of an operation. January 21 Wednesday- Henry KUMNU, of Raymbaultown, died yesterday after an illness of several weeks. He is survived by a widow and four children. Sixteen months ago all the family came to the copper country from CORNWALL, ENGLAND. Mr. EVANS has worked at the Tamarack mine all t he time. She leaves her husband, one son and four daughters, one of the daughters is in CORNWALL. The funeral will be Sunday afternoon at the Tamarack Methodist church. Deaths January 22 Thursday-- Hebry SAN ANTONIO employed as a trammer at the Arcadian mine, was killed in the mine Tuesday night. He was killed a falling rock. Apparently he should have worked behind the rock and would not take advice and forced the rock down from the front of it. He came to this country a year ago. He leaves a wife and one child to mourn for him. The funeral was held Frifay morning at St Joseph's church. January 22 Thursday- Felix HEBERT, aged 23 years, of Tamarack, City, died Tuesday evening after an operation at the Lake Linden hospital. He died of an abscess. He is survived by a mother, three brothers and three sisters. The funeral will be held this morning from St Cecelia's church, Lake Linden. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. Marriages January 22 Thursday- Cyrille AUBAIN married Miss Anna KUSS, daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert KUSS, both of Lake Linden at Holy Rosary church, Lake Linden. They will reside in Lake Linden. January 22 Thursday- Matthew Alfred SEMBLA married Miss Henrietta Eveline HARRY ,daughter of M r and Mrs. Adam HARRY, of Calumet, at the home of the bride's parents. They will make their home in Calumet. Deaths January 22 Thursday- Mrs. Clara Schroeder BAER, aged 31 years, wife of Henry L. BAER of Hancock, died yesterday afternoon at her home of blood poisoning. She was born in Burlington, Iowa 1871 July 21 She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob SCHROEDER of Chicago.. She moved to Chicago 22 years ago where she resided with her parents for 15 years, and was married Henry L. BAER there. They moved to Hancock to live, She leaves her husband, two little daughters, her parents, two brothers and two sisters, all live in Chicago, Illinois. The remains will be shipped to Milwaukee, Wisconsin this afternoon and burial will be in that city at the Greenwood cemetery in the family plot. January 24 Saturday- Theresa FORNISA, aged 20 years, wife of Angelo FORNISA, of Lake View died yesterday afternoon at her home. She is survived by her husband and a young child. The funeral will be held Sunday, January 24 Saturday- Paul BRENZ, aged 20 years, died yesterday at the Tamarack hospital after an operation. He was a member of the St Joseph and St Cecelia Austrian Society. His funeral will on Sunday from the Austrian church in Calumet. January 24 Saturday- Florence PAULL, aged 19 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph PAULL, of Laurium, died at the Calumet and Hecla Hospital on Friday of appendicitis. The funeral will be Sunday afternoon from the Laurium, Methodist church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Marriages January 25 Sunday- Frederick TRETHEWEY of Quincy married Miss Lettie GLANVILLE of Calumet, at the home of the bride's uncle, Richard HICKS, of Calumet last night. They will live at Quincy. January 25 Sunday- Joseph KNIGHT married Miss Susie GRIBBLE last night, at the home of Mrs. Ellen GLANVILLE of Trimountain. They will live at Trimountain where they are from. Deaths January 25 Sunday- John COUCH, aged about 45 years, died suddenly of heart disease at James FERGUSON's saloon in Sidhaw last week. Nothing was known of the man and he was buried at Houghton County expense. January 27 Tuesday- Word was received here yesterday that William TONKIN, formerly agent for the Atlantic Mining company, died at his home in Plymouth, England on January 12 1903. He spent the best years of his life in the copper country. He was born in Devonshire, England 1829 January 12 and was brought up to be a miner. He came to America in 1849 and worked at the old Northwest mine in the Lake Superior area. He was finally made Mine Captain at this mine and superintendent of the stamp mill at the same time at this mine. IN the 1860s he was mining captain at the Central mine, Keweenaw county for 10 years and than went to the Ariantic mine as mine captain and later mine agent till he retired 10 years ago. He than went back to Plymouth to live in his native land till he died. January 28 Wednesday- Frances Wilhelmina SHINDLER, aged 24 years, wife of Henry SHINDLER, died of childbirth, at her home in Painesdale yesterday. She is survived by her husband and two children. The funeral will take place Saturday. at the German Lutheran church, Calumet and burial at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. January 28 Wednesday- Albert HANSON, a trammer in the Kearsarge mine was killed yesterday by falling rock in the mine. His body was shipped to Minnesota for burial. January 28- MARRIAGE LICENSES ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK Louis BREVICK of Calumet and Magnheld DRAGE, of Norway George RICHARDS and Matilda MORGAN, of Calumet Alfred COOMBE and Dina CHAPUT, of Portage township Death January 30 Friday- John SVENSON, aged 26, died at St Joseph's hospital, Hancock yesterday afternoon after an operation for appendicitis. He was brought in a week ago from one of the Copper Range extension camps. He has a brother in California, parents and a sister in the East to Survive him. He will be buried from t he Swedish Lutheran church tomorrow. The body will be shipped to hid parents and buried in their home town.. News Item January 30 Friday- Mrs. John DRISCOLL, of Butte, Montana, who has been making an extended visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William GOGGIN of Hancock, left for Butte yesterday. Death January 30 Friday- The Associated Press yesterday stated that John GAFFNEY, a former Calumet man, son of John GAFFNEY of Calumet, met his death in the Quincy mine near Salt Lake City, Utah. An avalanche tore down the Quincy mine house and killed him, he was an engineer. He left Calumet two years ago to go to the mine. The body will be shipped to Calumet for burial here. Three weeks ago, one brother, Tom left Calumet for the mine expecting to get a job there; another brother, Andrew, is a motorman for the local street car company. News Item January 30 Friday- John GREGG, of Calumet, has gone to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he has a good position as a machinist awaiting him. Marriage January 30 Friday- George RICHARDS and Matilda YOUNG were married last Wednesday afternoon at the Calumet Methodist church parsonage.. Death January 30 Friday- The funeral of the late Mrs. Charles A. LARSON of Rockland Street, Calumet will take place Sunday afternoon. Services will be held at the Swedish Lutheran church, Calumet, Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. News Item January 30 Friday-Miss Algie ROEHM, daughter of Alderman Paul ROEHM of Laurium, has gone to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she accepted a position as a teacher in the Milwaukee schools. She is a graduate of the Calumet high school and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Michigan. Probate Matter January 30 Friday- In the matter of the estate of John E. HOSKING, deceased, Minnie JENNINGS has requested that she be appointed administrator of the estate by the probate court. ( see page 1903 Jany 6 for death details, he is of CORNWALL, ENGLAND ) News Items January 31 Saturday- James ANDREWS and Richard HAWK both of Painesdale, will leave this Tuesday for Arizona to make their future home. February 1 Sunday-- John EUSTACE recently resigned his position in the machine shop at the Champion Mine, Painesdale. 'He left for the Victoria Mine, near Rockland, Ontonagon, County, Michigan and has taken the position as master mechanic at the Victoria mine. Death February 1 Sunday-Ed FILLION, aged 34 years, of South Lake Linden, died at his home Friday night, from a complication of diseases. He was the son of Isaac FILLION, Sr. of South Lake Linden and was a single man. He leaves two brothers, Isaac of South Lake Linden; Paul of Montreal, Canada;; six sisters- Miss Belle FILLION of Iron Mountain, Michigan; Mrs George DUPUIS of Saulte St Marie; Mrs. Peter GROOSE and the Misses Tillie, Emma and Josephine, all 4 from South Lake Linden. The funeral will be Tuesday morning from St Cecelia's church, Lake Linden and burial at Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake Linden. Probate Matter and Death February 3 Tuesday- In the matter of the estate of Mary MORREY, deceased, Frank J.MORREY asked the court to appoint him the administrator of the estate. Marriage February 3 Tuesday- Justice C.O. JACKOLA, married his first couple yesterday, the groom was James F. FRANKLIN, a colored railroad porter and Miss Jennie May SNYDER, a white girl. Death February 3 Tuesday- Mrs. James JAMES of Lake Linden received the sad news Sunday that her sister, Mrs. James BURGE of Negaunee, Marquette County, Michigan had passed away that morning. Mrs. James TREGONING of South Lake Linden is another sister. Mr. and Mrs. James TREGONING and Miss Annie JAMES left for the funeral today at Negaunee. Marriage February 4 Wednesday- Eugene MARCHAND of Lake Linden married Miss Evelina DESCAREAU, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orphe DESCAREAU of Lake Linden at St Joseph's church. Lake Linden yesterday morning. They will make their home at Lake Linden. Death February 5Thursday- The remains of the late Charles G. ENDAHL, who died at Graeenland, Ontonagon County, Michigan ion Friday ,were shipped to Ishpeming, Marquette County, Michigan ,on Monday for burial. Marriage February 5 Thursday- Joseph SCHRODER, of Calumet married Miss Susanna PINTEN at St Joseph's church in Hancock yesterday morning. Death February 5 Thursday- Mine Captain William Edward PARNALL, aged 64, superintendent and general manager of the Biglow group of mines, died yesterday at his home in Tamarack of cancer of the stomach. He leaves a widow, sons- William E .Jr.; Samuel A., and Christopher and a daughter- Isabella. The services will be held tomorrow from his Tamarack home and burial will be at Lake View cemetery. He was born 1839 June 2 at ST AUSTELL, CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of Christopher and Mary ( VIVIAN) PARNALL He was one of five children, having a brother and three sisters. His father was a stone mason and his grandfather was a sea captain. He was an apprentice carpenter working in London. He went to a private school till he was 12 years old. He worked in St Austell's tin mines till age 18 when he came to America in 1857. He first worked on a railroad in South Carolina, than in the coal mines of Virginia and Pennsylvania. In 1860 he came to Ontonagon County, Michigan, working as a miner in the National mine in Rockland. in two years he became mine captain there and worked 8 more years there. In 1871 he went to Rhode Island and took charge of a coal mine there He returned to the Phoenix mine in Keweenaw County and took charge there. He worked there for seven years. In 1890 till his death he was in charge of the Tamararack; Osceola Consolidated and the Isle Royale Mines. His son, William E. PARNALL Jr. was his assistant. He was married at Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan in 1864 to Miss Isabelle GREGG, who died in 1872. Three years later he married at the same place, Miss Mary GREGG., who survives him. Marriages February 5 Thursday- Michael E. O'BRIEN, of Calumet married Miss Nellie V. HARRINGTON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester A. HARRINGTON, of Lake Linden, yesterday morning at the Holy Rosary church, Lake Linden. They will make their home in Calumet. February 5 Thursday- Peter MICHELS married Miss Laura GREGORY, of Houghton yesterday morning at St Ignatius Catholic church, Houghton. They will live near the South Rabge Mercantile store at Painesdale.. News Item February 6 Friday- Will KEAST, of the counting room force at the Tamarack mine, has resigned his position and leaves February 14 for Ulysses, Idaho, where he has accepted a position with the Kittie Burton Gold Mine company in its office there. He has been at the Tamarack mine for eleven years. Death February 6 Friday- Samuel CHINN, the infant son of James CHINN, of the Mohawk location, died yesterday. The funeral will be held Sunday, with burial at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Death February 8 Sunday- The funeral of the late Mrs. Mary SPRING, of Houghton, will be from St Ignatius Catholic church tomorrow morning. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. Birth February 8 Sunday- A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. John BOYD, Jr. of South Lake Linden yesterday morning. Marriage February 8 Sunday- News was received yesterday of the marriage of Captain John HOATSON, formerly of Calumet to Miss Mary A. EDMINSTER ,at St Augustine, Florida. on January 21. They are now living in Bisbee, Arizona. Death February 8 Sunday- The remains of Peter BERG, who died in the Lake Superior General hospital at Lake Linden, yesterday ,were brought to Calumet last night and moved to Ryans Undertakers. He was 44 years old. The funeral will take place tomorrow. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Marriage February 8 Sunday- Magnus ANDERSON married Miss Vera MANNER, both of Calumet, last evening, the Rev A. F. HERIDEMANN officiating. The groom is manager of the Finnish Furniture company and the bride recently arrived from Helsingfors, Finland. Deaths February 8 Sunday- Martin MAURIN, aged 47 years, who was injured at the Kearsarge Mine several days ago, died at the Tamarack Hospital yesterday. He is survived by a widow and three children in Austria and a grown up son who lives here. The funeral will be held today. February 10 Tuesday- Mrs. Mabel Ward BLOOMFIELD, aged 27 years ,wife of Walter BLOOMFIELD, supply clerk at the Quincy Mining Company, died yesterday at St Joseph's hospital, Hancock. She was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey and the remains will be shipped there for burial. The funeral services will be held at the home of her parents in that city. She is survived by her husband and her parents. February 10 Tuesday- The news of the death of Mrs. Theodore BISSONETTE was received by her husband and relatives in Tamarack and Lake Linden. She died at the Newberry Michigan State Mental Institution. She was taken there four weeks ago due to her shattered mental condition. She had been ill for a .long time prior to going to Newberry. She is survived by her husband and six children. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F red PRINCE of Lake Linden. The remains will be brought to Lake Linden for services at her parent's home. Burial will be at Maple Hill cemetery, Lake Linden. February 10 Tuesday- Mrs. Jermie VERSAILLE, aged 64 years, died at her home in Lake Linden yesterday morning. She was the mother of 8 children, all, but Phillip, live in Lake Linden and leaves her husband also. The funeral will be Wednesday at St Joseph's church, Lake Linden. Death February 12 Thursday- Patrick MURPHY, aged 24 years, died at his West Hancock home at 4 AM this morning. He was single and is survived by his mother and three sisters-Josephine; Minnie and Nellie. The funeral will be held Friday morning at St Patrick's church, Hancock. Death was due to a gunshot wound he received at Trimountain three years ago. A drunken Finnish man got on a rampage and started shooting, Mr. MURPHY happened to be in his range. The Finnish man was sentenced to three years in prison and was recently released. Henry CODY came from Mass City to attend the funeral. Burial will be at the Old Catholic cemetery, Hancock. News Item February 12 Thursday- William GOULETTE of Calumet, has resigned his position with the Calumet and Hecla company and leaves next week for Bisbee, Arizona. He leaves Calumet on the advice of his physician, who recommended the change for his health. He had been confined there for the past few years. He was injured in a mine accident 6 years ago and his mind became deranged from the accident. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. February 13 Friday-William Henry RICHARDS, aged 65 years, one of the pioneer residents of Laurium, died at his home yesterday from paralysis. He had been ill for 4 months. He is survived by a widow and three children- William H. RICHARDS, owner of the Peoples Clothing Store; James and Mrs. William EDWARDS. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND and moved to Canada in his early days. He next came to Copper Falls, Keweenaw County 31 years ago and 3 years later came to Calumet area where he resided for 28 years. The funeral will be from the Calumet Methodist church and the burial at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. February 13 Friday- Mrs. Eliza SIMON, aged 76 years, widow of Samuel, SIMON, died at the Painesdale home of her son, Arthur, yesterday. The funeral will be from Painesdale on Sunday afternoon and the burial at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. Death February 14 Saturday- Mrs Annie KREMER, wife of Fred KREMER, died very suddenly late Thursday night at the home of Joseph TRUDELL in Calumet. She died of pneumonia. She leaves a husband and two daughters, one eight and the other five years old. The funeral will take place Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic church, Calumet and burial at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. JACKSON tomorrow afternoon. February 24 Tuesday- John McKAY, of Lake Linden, aged 48 years, died yesterday morning at his home after seven months of terrible pain. He leaves an aged mother, with whom he lived in Lake Linden and two sisters, Mrs. NEDEAU of Calumet and Mrs. John GILLES of Butte City, Montana. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Lake Linden Congregational church and burial will be at Maple Hill cemetery, Lake Linden. Marriage February 24 Tuesday- Herman A. She had lived in Houghton four years, coming here from Alpena. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John FULTON of St Clair, Michigan. She was married to A. L. He was born in Inverness, Scotland in 1843 and came to America at the age of 14 years. He first lived in Canada and moved to Detroit, Michigan. He came to the copper country 40 years ago and lived in Houghton all that time. He worked as a mason all the time till his illness. He was marshal of Houghton for 13 years.. He is survived by a wife and three daughters- Miss Annie ,who lives at home; Mrs. William CONVERSE and Miss Mary who teaches school ,both of Anaconda, Montana. Also a brother, Angus of Negaunee, Marquette, Michigan. The funeral will be from the home on Saturday afternoon. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. His wifes parents, Mr. and Mrs. George DEMAROIS, reside in Calumet, where he will be buried at Lake View Cemetery, .He was a veteran of the Spanish- American war.
